After playing his final game for the Boston Celtics, veteran big man Al Horford has made it clear: it’s Golden State Warriors or retirement.
Following a 2024 championship run, Boston is entering a transition phase. With Jayson Tatum sidelined long-term due to injury and the organization aiming to reset financially, the Celtics have already moved Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday.

Despite being seen as a valuable veteran presence for any contender, Horford is focused solely on San Francisco. If a deal with Golden State doesn’t materialize, he’s prepared to call time on his career.
Horford appeared in 60 games last season, starting 42 of them. He averaged 9.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game, and continued to provide efficient shooting from deep—an area where Golden State is looking to improve in its frontcourt rotation. His defensive versatility, leadership, and championship experience make him a logical target for the Warriors.
Now, the question is whether Golden State shares that vision—and if Steve Kerr and his staff believe Horford can be the piece that helps them compete for another title. If not, the veteran is seriously considering retirement after nearly two decades in the league.
