At recent meetings, the EuroLeague discussed potential changes to its competition system, including the possibility of expanding the league.
One of the key proposed changes is a shift from licenses to a franchise model, with more than 10 clubs already expressing interest.
One club particularly eager to join Europe’s elite is Napoli, a member of Italy’s Serie A.
Club representatives have emphasized their readiness for open discussions with both EuroLeague officials and NBA Europe representatives:
Jasmin Repesa named Napoli head coach in Serie A survival push
“We are in talks with both the NBA and the EuroLeague regarding our next step. We are building a new arena that should be completed within two to three years. It will be among the 10 most modern in Europe.
Naples has a population of 3 to 4 million people, which is larger than around 20% of NBA franchises. If Naples were an NBA team, it would rank in the upper half in terms of potential fan base.”
Napoli Basket, which has expressed interest in obtaining a #EuroLeague license and is also in contact with the NBA, has unveiled the project for a new 15,000-seat arena. “It will be one of the top 10 most modern arenas in all of Europe”.

The company “Matteo Rizzetta“, whose president leads “Underdog Global Partners“, has presented a visual concept of the new arena project, aimed at securing entry into the EuroLeague or even a future NBA Europe competition.
The arena will be designed in the shape of a volcano, Mount Vesuvius, one of the region’s iconic symbols, and will have a seating capacity of around 15,000 for basketball games, expandable to 18,000 for other events such as concerts. It will be part of a larger complex intended to operate year-round, hosting a variety of events.
