Bayern were looking for a replacement for Svetislav Pesic, who is set to end his coaching career at the end of the season, and it appears they have found the ideal candidate.
According to BasketNews and reports from several European journalists, Bayern are set to appoint Anton Gavel as their new head coach, currently the head coach of Bamberg.
Anton Gavel is a former player who, among other clubs, also played for Bayern, where he ended his playing career. He began his coaching career in 2019 and is regarded as a young coach (41) who has previously led Orange Academy, Ulm, and Bamberg, which he has been coaching since 2024.
With Ulm, he won the club’s first-ever German Bundesliga title, while at Bamberg he has currently reached a decisive Game 5 in the semifinal series against Alba Berlin. In the final, he would face Bayern, led by Pesic.
It should be noted that the Serbian coach has confirmed that this will be his final season coaching from the sidelines.
Bayern are also already being heavily linked with reinforcements for next season. It is very likely that Johannes Thiemann will wear the Bayern jersey next season, while Duane Washington from Partizan is also mentioned as a possible target.
