Asvel have added Myles Cale to their roster, with the 27-year-old American joining the French club after spending last season with Barcelona.
Cale arrives in Villeurbanne following his first campaign in the EuroLeague, giving Asvel another versatile option capable of playing both shooting guard and small forward.
The move represents another step in the club’s attempt to assemble a competitive roster after a summer filled with major changes both on and off the court.
Cale arrives after first EuroLeague season
Cale made his EuroLeague debut with Barcelona last season after building his career through several different levels of professional basketball.
The American appeared in 34 EuroLeague games for the Spanish powerhouse, averaging 3.3 points and 1.9 rebounds per game.
Although his role in Barcelona’s rotation was relatively limited, the season gave Cale his first opportunity to compete regularly at the highest level of European club basketball.
He will now look for a larger role with Asvel.
The 27-year-old can operate at both the shooting guard and small forward positions, giving the French club some additional flexibility on the perimeter.

From Seton Hall to European basketball
Cale’s professional journey began after five seasons at Seton Hall, where he played from 2017 through 2022.
He went undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft and subsequently began his professional career outside the NBA.
His European experience includes spells with Trento and Limburg United, while he also spent time in the United States with the Greensboro Swarm.
Cale eventually earned the opportunity to play for Barcelona, making the jump to the EuroLeague for the first time last season.
His move to Asvel now gives him another opportunity to establish himself at that level.
Asvel’s ambitious summer took an unexpected turn
Cale joins an Asvel project that has undergone dramatic changes during the offseason.
The French club initially appeared to be building one of the most ambitious rosters in its recent history, bringing in established names such as Sylvain Francisco, Nick Weiler-Babb, Armoni Brooks and Daniel Theis.
However, Asvel were unable to secure the budget they had originally planned for.
That forced the club to make significant changes almost immediately, with several of those additions leaving before playing an official game for the team.
Sylvain Francisco eventually joined Panathinaikos, while Daniel Theis moved to Maccabi Tel Aviv, with both players leaving Asvel before making an official appearance for the club.
Weiler-Babb was sent on loan to Crvena Zvezda, while Brooks joined Valencia.
The situation left Asvel needing to rethink their roster and find players who fit their revised financial structure.
Asvel continue rebuilding their roster
Despite the difficult circumstances, Asvel have continued adding players ahead of the new season.
The club have brought in Joel Bolomboy from Crvena Zvezda, Both Gach from Bourg, Yves Pons from Andorra and veteran guard Patty Mills from Tenerife.
They have also signed Nate Sestina from Milano and Marc-Owen Fodzo Dada from Nancy.
Cale now becomes another piece of that rebuilt roster.
His versatility on the wing could be particularly useful for Asvel as the club attempt to maintain competitiveness despite having to significantly adjust their original plans.
Tony Parker takes over the coaching role
Another major change awaits Asvel on the sidelines.
Tony Parker, who is also the club’s owner, will take over as head coach.
The former NBA superstar will therefore be directly involved in both the sporting and organizational side of the project as Asvel attempt to move forward following a turbulent offseason.
Cale’s arrival gives Parker another perimeter option as he looks to build a functional roster around the players who remain with the club.
After an unexpected summer of departures and budget revisions, Asvel are now entering the new season with a very different team from the one they initially planned to build.
