Atlanta Hawks vs Milwaukee Bucks Preview
The Atlanta Hawks are currently riding a frighteningly good stretch, winning eight consecutive games. To be fair, Quin Snyder’s squad has benefited from a relatively favorable schedule recently, but that does not diminish the fact that they are the hottest team in the NBA right now in terms of active winning streak. Their last three games were played at home, where they defeated the Philadelphia 76ers (125–116), the Dallas Mavericks (124–112), and the Brooklyn Nets (108–97). The Hawks currently sit eighth in the Eastern Conference standings with a 35–31 record.
Somewhat unexpectedly, the Atlanta Hawks have now found themselves in the race for a direct playoff berth. Prior to the season, many analysts predicted Atlanta could be one of the most pleasant surprises in the NBA, with Quin Snyder even mentioned as a potential Coach of the Year candidate. That narrative has not fully materialized yet, but the Hawks have clearly not given up. On the contrary, a series of intriguing trades helped assemble a roster capable of putting together convincing winning streaks. In fact, seven of Atlanta Hawks’ last eight victories have come by double digits, with some opponents – such as the Washington Wizards and the Portland Trail Blazers – losing by more than 30 points. The main reason the Hawks remain relevant in the playoff race is simple: Jalen Johnson. Few expected the talented power forward to reach star-level production this early, but he has been delivering outstanding performances consistently. He was particularly impressive in the last three games, scoring 20, 35, and 27 points, while averaging nine rebounds and eight assists over that span. Alongside him, Nickeil Alexander-Walker has also been in excellent form, scoring 23, 24, 29, and 18 points in his last four appearances. The Hawks can also be encouraged by a strong performance from rookie Zaccharie Risacher in the win over the Nets, where he posted 19 points and nine rebounds. Meanwhile, Jonathan Kuminga returned to the floor in that game after missing three contests due to a knee injury. Veteran presence comes from CJ McCollum, while excellent center Onyeka Okongwu provides toughness in the paint and strong rebounding.
Unlike the Atlanta Hawks, the Milwaukee Bucks are currently in a disastrous stretch of form. They have lost three straight games and seven of their last eight overall. Over the last three matchups they were defeated by the Orlando Magic (130–91), the Phoenix Suns (129–114), and the Miami Heat (112–105). As a result, the Wisconsin franchise now holds a 27–38 record and sits 11th in the Eastern Conference.
It appears that the play-in tournament hopes of the Milwaukee Bucks are slowly slipping away, and it remains unclear how concerned the franchise actually is about that reality. The fact that things are clearly not functioning properly on the court is illustrated by the statistic that four of their last five losses came with Giannis Antetokounmpo in the lineup. The Greek superstar did everything within his power against Miami Heat, finishing with 31 points and six rebounds, but the Bucks were completely outmatched on the glass and attempted significantly fewer free throws than their opponent. Another major reason behind Milwaukee Bucks’ struggles this season has been persistent injury problems. Head coach Doc Rivers had his team’s nominally strongest starting lineup available for only the second time this season in the game against Miami. Alongside Antetokounmpo were Bobby Portis, Kevin Porter Jr., Kyle Kuzma, and Myles Turner. However, aside from Portis, none of Milwaukee Bucks’ main contributors were particularly effective. As has been the case many times this season, young point guard Ryan Rollins provided a solid contribution, finishing with 16 points and 10 assists. Still, the Bucks had only three players in double figures, which was not enough to defeat a surging Miami Heat squad. Looking ahead, it remains unclear what Milwaukee’s true ambitions are for the remainder of the season. There is little doubt that their results will largely depend on the availability of Giannis Antetokounmpo – and on how motivated he remains to continue competing at the highest level.
Atlanta Hawks vs Milwaukee Bucks H2H
In the two meetings between these teams so far this season, the series is tied 1–1. Interestingly, the road team has won both matchups.
Injuries and Suspensions
Jonathan Kuminga will not play for the Atlanta Hawks. As for the Milwaukee Bucks, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Alex Antetokounmpo, Ousmane Dieng, Cormac Ryan, and Kevin Porter Jr. are listed as questionable.
Where to Watch Atlanta Hawks vs Milwaukee Bucks?
Atlanta Hawks vs Milwaukee Bucks Best Betting Tip and Prediction
The Atlanta Hawks have been in excellent form lately, largely thanks to the very strong defense they have been playing. They are on an eight-game winning streak and often manage to hold their opponents to double-digit scoring totals. On the other hand, the Milwaukee Bucks do not have a particularly strong offense this season and lack enough players who can make a difference through individual quality, so we do not expect a high-scoring game and our suggestion is that the total points will be under the offered line.
