Asvel has bolstered its backcourt by signing veteran French playmaker Thomas Heurtel to a one-year contract for the upcoming 2025–26 season.
The 36-year-old is no stranger to the club, having previously worn the Asvel jersey during the latter part of the 2020–21 campaign.
Now, he makes his return to the EuroLeague after recent stints in China and Spain.

Claim Now Heurtel began last season with the Shenzhen Leopards, where he impressed by averaging 18.2 points, 8.5 assists, and 4.1 rebounds over 10 games. He then returned to Spain, joining Leyma Coruña in the ACB, where he continued to deliver high-level performances—putting up 12.9 points and dishing out 9 assists per game across eight appearances.
Throughout his extensive career, Heurtel has played for some of Europe’s most prominent clubs, including Barcelona, Real Madrid, Anadolu Efes, and Baskonia. In 2022, he made the move to Zenit, stepping away from EuroLeague competition before re-entering it with this latest move.
Asvel highlighted his ability to orchestrate the offense and elevate teammates:
“He will bring his on-court experience, particularly through his ability to create plays and generate opportunities,” the club stated in its official announcement.
