Head coach Tim Cone and the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel can´t wait for the FIBA and Asian Games break to finally come. They are playing wounded without their legendary scorer Justin Brownlee with their first-choice point guard Scottie Thompson also unavailable. Ginebra brought in import Riley Grigsby to temporarily replace Brownlee – he has been playing at a high level and is showing impressive shooting range, but Ginebra´s domestic contingent, especially RJ Abarrientos, have been underperforming. Even when the Gin Kings win a game, it is an ugly victory with defense as their primary focus. Defense is the only thing they can rely on at the moment because their offense is stagnating and has limited movement. Head coach Tim Cone acknowledged that and also added they are far from their peak form, which is more than visible on the court. The Kings are currently standing at a 2-3 W-L record – they lost against the Phoenix Fuelmasters in the opener, Rain or Shine routinely beat them by double-digits, while most recently, they were completely crushed in the Manila Classico derby by Magnolia. Their two wins came against today´s opponents, which was their best performance in the Governors´ Cup, and against a heavily shorthanded Meralco side. Things are not looking good for them right now, but when the break finishes and the Governors´ Cup resumes, we are expecting a completely different Ginebra squad that will be playing basketball worthy of winning the title.
Ginebra are lucky to have Blackwater on their schedule today. In this kind of form, if they were playing a better team today, they would be doomed to lose, but a fixture against the Bossing seems more than winnable, especially because the Gin Kings already thrashed Blackwater by 30 points two weeks ago.
As one of the weakest PBA franchises, the Blackwater Bossing can be more than satisfied with their current 3-3 W-L record. They were the most pleasant surprise at the start, but as we expected, the wear and tear of the long Governors´ Cup schedule is getting to them. During the early stages, they managed to take down the shorthanded Elasto Painters, while also routinely beating Magnolia. Then came the clash against the Bolts, who prevailed in one of the craziest games so far by two points (116:114). It seems that loss affected the Bossing heavily as they got humbled by Ginebra by 30 points and then lost easily to the Phoenix Fuelmasters. However, there is hope for Blackwater after they managed to beat the Fuelmasters a couple of days ago, but we doubt their import Kentrell Barkley and guard Sedrick Barefield can repeat their performance from that match. They combined for a total of 60 points, 19 rebounds and 6 assists, while RK Ilagan added 15 points and 6 rebounds. The rest of their roster is very modest and doesn´t provide enough support to these three players, who are the main susperstars on their roster and deserve to play for stronger teams.
Blackwater got absolutely hammered by Ginebra in the first head-to-head clash. In that game, the Gin Kings shot the lights out and tormented Blackwater´s porous defense. Today, we are expecting an improvement from the Bossing, but it will not be enough to avoid defeat.

In the first head-to-head clash, Ginebra were slight favourites, so following their 30-point victory, they will certainly be bigger favourites this time. Taking the Ginebra spread when their team is shorthanded and out of form is dangerous, but the Total Under seems like a very profitable option because the Kings are playing very solid defense.
