Barangay Ginebra San Miguel vs Rain or Shine Elasto Painters Preview
With a completely new import trying to blend into Tim Cone´s triangle offense, the Ginebra Kings had massive issues in the opener against the Phoenix Fuelmasters, who managed to stun one of the premiere PBA teams 81:78. Riley Grigsby had a monster performance with 42 points in that clash, but the domestic roster faltered and only produced a total of 36 points. Coach Tim Cone was furious after that game and didn´t look for excuses even though Ginebra are missing the local legend and naturalized import Justin Brownlee along with experienced point guard Scottie Thompson. We knew that Ginebra would show a completely different face in their second game against Blackwater and that is exactly what happened as they demolished the Bossing 115:85. There is no way a team like the Ginebra Kings would suffer back-to-back losses against inferior opposition – in the blowout victory against Blackwater, import Grigsby dropped 18 points effortlessly, while the domestic contingent improved massively after the unexpected loss against Phoenix with seven domestic players finishing the game in double-digits. Today, Barangay Ginebra are facing a familiar foe in Rain or Shine that gave them a run for their money in the previous Commissioner´s Cup playoff semifinal. However, Rain or Shine now look much weaker compared to that series because they are battling injuries and absences. That should be costly against Ginebra, whose team is roaring and desperately wants to chalk up another victory after wiping the floor with Blackwater.
Many thought that Ginebra wouldn´t be the same team without Brownlee but having a former NBA G-League player Riley Grigsby as his temporary replacement is proving to be a wise decision by Ginebra´s board and coaching staff. We even think that Grigsby is better compared to Justin Brownlee because Justin is aging and is dealing with injuries, while Grigsby is only 27 years old and looks like an offensive machine.
The TNT Tropang and the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters are two teams that have been affected by injuries and absences the most at the start of this Governors´ Cup. Rain or Shine had a stellar outing in the Commissioner´s Cup and were expected to continue on a high note in this conference, but so far, they have been subpar with their shortened rotation. The Elasto Painters are missing a couple of key cogs as Stanley Pringle, Felix Lemetti and Leonard Santillan are all out with injuries. In addition, Rain or Shine recently traded away a key scorer in Gian Mamuyac for draft picks, which is also a huge blow for their rotation. The Blackwater Bossing completely blew them out of the park in the opener 131:108, while against the Meralco Bolts, they looked much better but completely fell apart in the second half and lost 122:114. In their final game, they were facing a very strong Fuelmasters side – they dished out a total of 29 assists in that game and preserved their massive lead from the third quarter to claim a 105:98. Following that match, head coach Yeng Guiao stated they were in a state of desperation and simply had to win. They produced a victory when they needed it the most, but with their overall form and absences, we don´t see how they could threaten a powerful Ginebra side this Sunday.
If the Elasto Painters were complete and in better form, then this would be a very tough matchup to predict. However, with the current state of these teams, the Gin Kings are the clear favourites and should be able to walk away with a routine win.
Barangay Ginebra San Miguel vs Rain or Shine Elasto Painters H2H
A couple of months ago in the Commissioner´s Cup, Ginebra won a grueling playoff semifinal series against Rain or Shine. In the Philippine Cup with All-Filipino lineups, it was another tense and tight affair, which the Gin Kings won by two points (102:100).
Injuries and Suspensions
The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel will be without Justin Browlee with Scottie Thompson questionable. The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters can´t count on Leonard Santillan, Felix Lemetti, Stanley Pringle and a couple of other minor role players.

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel vs Rain or Shine Elasto Painters Best Betting Tip and Prediction
We are sure that head coach Yeng Guiao is preparing some new tactical traps for his foe Tim Cone, but the quality and the depth of Ginebra should overwhelm the tactical mastery of Rain or Shine´s coach. The Elasto Painters could hang on for most of the game, but over long stretches in the third and final frame, they won´t have enough firepower to handle the mighty Ginebra. That is why we opted for the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel to win and to cover the spread.
