Barcelona couldn’t have had a worse start to their game at the Palau against Murcia. Aiming for their fourth consecutive win, Joan Penarroya’s men struggled from the tip-off against the sharp shooting of Sito Alonso’s team, but in the end they lost.
Murcia completely dominated the Blaugrana in the first quarter, outscoring them 34-16. According to user MisterChip on X, the first 10 minutes marked the worst first-quarter result for Barcelona at home in the entire history of Liga Endesa. Murcia hit four three-pointers in the opening period and scored a total of 34 points.
Claim Now Barcelona hadn’t allowed that many points in a first quarter at the Palau in an Endesa League game since 2002, in a match against Valencia Basket that ended the first quarter 36-28.
The Barcelona players and coaching staff expressed their frustration toward the referees over several calls early in the game. Jan Vesely was ejected after receiving two consecutive technical fouls on the same play, and Coach Penarroya was also penalized with a technical foul.
Adding to Barcelona’s problems was an injury to Tornike Shengelia, which could potentially make him miss the upcoming EuroLeague showdown against Real Madrid.

For Barcelona, Tornike Shengelia led the team with 21 points (6-for-16). Kevin Punter contributed 10 points on 4-for-10 shooting, while Will Clyburn, after his heroics against Partizan, went scoreless with eight rebounds and 0-for-6 from the field.
In the next round, Murcia will host Manresa, while Barcelona will face Girona.
