Barcelona vs Dubai Preview
Barcelona played their weakest game since the arrival of head coach Xavi Pascual in the previous EuroLeague round. They lost 80-61 to Real Madrid without having a chance at any point. Poor form continued over the weekend as well, as they narrowly beat San Pablo Burgos in the Liga Endesa, a team that is nominally one of the weakest in the competition. Barcelona are currently 14-8 in the EuroLeague, which is good enough for sixth place in the standings. A major problem at the moment is the shooting form of Kevin Punter, who is an unreal 0/16 over the last two games. After missing all ten of his shots against Real Madrid, he continued the same way on Sunday when he went 0/6 against San Pablo Burgos. Punter is nominally Barcelona’s best offensive player, and without his contribution things become drastically more difficult on that end of the floor.
In the absence of Punter’s points, Dario Brizuela and Nicolas Laprovittola have to carry a heavy load, because apart from those two Barcelona almost have no one else in the backcourt who can contribute in that way. Tomas Satoransky usually shoots only when he is completely wide open, and the same can be said for Myles Cale. When it comes to Barcelona’s frontcourt, the positive aspect is certainly the way Willy Hernangomez is playing. His form has been under constant scrutiny over the last two years, but it seems that since Pascual’s arrival he has found the desired rhythm. Jan Vesely and Tornike Shengelia execute their tasks flawlessly, and when they are in good mood it is very difficult to outplay Barcelona in the low post. Miles Norris has also provided some good minutes recently and is capable of knocking down shots from distance.
Dubai suffered what might have been their toughest loss of the EuroLeague season last Thursday. They lost at home to Virtus 72-80 and likely cemented their chances of making the top 10. The projection is that 20 wins will be needed for that, and Dubai are currently 10-12. They now have three consecutive road games coming up, followed by two extremely difficult home games against Real Madrid and Olympiacos. In order to get back into a realistic play-in race, they will have to compensate for the loss to Virtus with some big and unexpected wins, and one of those would certainly be a victory at the Blaugrana this Tuesday. The positive news is that Dzanan Musa finally returned after more than two months out with injury and scored 13 points in 11 minutes on the floor against Cluj/Napoca in the ABA League this weekend.
In the loss to Virtus, Dubai’s offense failed to deliver. The Bologna team prepared excellently for McKinley Wright, who was nowhere near as productive as he has been recently while carrying this team, and neither Mfiondu Kabengele nor Filip Petrusev managed to stand out. Only Aleksa Avramovic and Dwayne Bacon were in good rhythm for Dubai, but that was far from enough to threaten Virtus. One of the biggest problems for this team is their defense, as they have the third worst defensive rating in the entire competition, and at the same time they are also one of the worst teams in terms of effective field goal percentage. The reason for that is a large number of bad shots taken from difficult positions, and alongside Bacon, Davis Bertans stands out in that regard as well. To have any chance in Barcelona, they will have to play incomparably better defense, along with high shooting percentages from long range.
Barcelona vs Dubai H2H
Dubai defeated Barcelona 83-78 in the only meeting these two teams have ever had.
Injuries and Suspensions
Will Clyburn and Juan Nunez are injured for Barcelona. Mam Jaiteh and Nate Mason are out for Dubai, while Kosta Kondic is questionable.
Where to Watch Barcelona vs Dubai?
Barcelona vs Dubai Best Betting Tip and Prediction
Dubai are more than aware that this game is one of their last opportunities to get back into a realistic fight for the top 10. It is true that they are facing a team that has been excellent over the last two months, but the heavy loss to Real Madrid and the poor performance in Burgos are certainly indicators that Barcelona’s form is not at its peak. Maybe Dubai will not have what it takes for an upset, but we still expect them to cover the spread.
