Dubai’s priority competition and main goal is the EuroLeague, regardless of interest from the NBA, according to Basketball Sphere sources.
Earlier today, Mundo Deportivo published a report mentioning that, alongside previously noted clubs like Fenerbahce, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Asvel (as well as football franchises such as Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City), Dubai and Valencia have emerged as intriguing organizations for the NBA’s European project.
As stated in the report, the wealthy owners and state-of-the-art arenas of the Spanish and Middle Eastern clubs make them attractive candidates for a potentially newly formed competition that, if realized, would have a significant impact on the landscape of European basketball.
Mundo Deportivo also emphasized that since the EuroLeague has yet to give a clear signal to Dubai and Valencia regarding their potential inclusion in the competition (amid ongoing discussions about expanding to 20 teams), both organizations could use this uncertainty to explore other opportunities.
According to available information, Dubai remains focused on the EuroLeague, prioritizing it over the NBA’s ambitious European initiative.
In any case, the ABA League club finds itself in a favorable position, seemingly able to weigh its options now that a viable alternative is on the table.
