Baskonia vs Milano Preview
Baskonia are at 4-9 after 13 games played in the EuroLeague this season, but what deserves praise is the fact that they have won all four of their previous games on their home court, and they did it in pretty convincing fashion. They were better than Dubai, Anadolu Efes, Virtus and Bayern, and they also had success in the Liga Endesa. All of this additionally boosted their confidence, and there is no doubt that they enter this matchup motivated and believing they can come away with a win. However, in the upcoming period they will have to do all that without Hamidou Diallo, who left the club after receiving an excellent offer from China, and Baskonia reacted instantly by signing Gytis Radzevicius from Rytas as his replacement. It remains to be seen how much the Lithuanian forward will be able to help because Diallo was doing a lot of quality work on both ends of the floor.
The player most responsible for Baskonia’s much better results lately is Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot, who has emerged as the team’s leader and the guy everything starts from on offense. He is averaging 19.6 points and only Nadir Hifi is better in the entire league in that category. Not only is he accurate, but Luwawu-Cabarrot takes responsibility and delivers in important moments of games. Markus Howard has only shown glimpses of that period when he was the EuroLeague’s top scorer, and Tadas Sedekerskis has had some pretty pale performances even though he has been a stability factor for Baskonia in recent years. Kobi Simmons has made a solid impression after arriving as a replacement for the injured Trent Forrest, whose return is expected soon.
In Milano, tectonic changes happened last week when Ettore Messina resigned as head coach and in all likelihood ended his rich career. The plan was to make this move next summer and have Giuseppe Poeta take over, but after the young Italian coach did a phenomenal job during the period when Messina was out due to illness, a joint decision was made to accelerate the transition and for Poeta to already take over the head coaching role. In the matchup against Maccabi Tel Aviv, the team responded excellently and achieved a convincing win that brought them to 7-6 in the EuroLeague. It was also Poeta’s third win this season in this competition in as many games on Milano’s bench. Before Maccabi Tel Aviv, he defeated Asvel and Olympiacos.
In the win over Maccabi Tel Aviv, Armoni Brooks and Shavon Shields were brilliant. They combined for eight three-pointers and a total of 46 points and were the most responsible for their team’s victory on neutral court in Belgrade. It will be important in Vitoria as well for them to be in a good shooting rhythm because the rotation will be even shorter than usual in the backcourt since Marko Guduric will not be traveling to Spain on Friday. There is a chance that Lorenzo Brown returns after a two-month absence, which would certainly ease the load on some players. It is also important to mention that Zach LeDay, Josh Nebo and Devin Booker are finally all available because one of them was constantly out for various reasons throughout the season so far, and it’s needless to say how much each of them means in the frontcourt rotation.
Baskonia vs Milano H2H
H2H last season was 1-1, and interestingly, in the last seven matchups between Baskonia and Milano, not a single one has been won by the visiting team.
Injuries and Suspensions
Markus Howard and Trent Forrest are questionable for Baskonia. Marko Guduric, Diego Flaccadori and Nate Sestina will not play for Milano, while Lorenzo Brown and Ousmane Diop are questionable.
Where to Watch Baskonia vs Milano?
Baskonia vs Milano Best Betting Tip and Prediction
It is not a coincidence that Baskonia has recorded four straight EuroLeague wins on its home court. They play with much more intensity in front of their fans, and they have lineups that can switch everything effectively and be aggressive on defense. Milano often plays with a lot of ups and downs, and they can only win here if they are extremely accurate from long range. Our prediction is that this will not be the case.
