As cellar dwellers and one of the weakest PBA franchises, the Blackwater Bossing decided to shake things up in the middle of the previous Commissioner´s Cup by appointing the decorated Pat Aquino as their head coach. Despite this, they ended that conference at the bottom of the ladder, but it seems things will improve in the Governors´ Cup after their stellar curtain raiser performance when they dismantled the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters 131:108. In that very important and confidence-boosting victory, the Bossing were led by their new American import Kentrell Barkley, who produced an amazing triple-double of 29 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists. He is a well-known basketball face in Asia and a proven legionnaire at almost every level in Asian basketball, so Blackwater definitely have a chance with him to reach the postseason. Besides him, the main leader and superstar on their roster is the Filipino-American guard Sedrick Barefield, who is basically playing at an import level. The Magnolia Hotshots reached the playoff quarter-final in both the last Philippine and Commissioner´s Cup, so they are hoping to do the same in this Governors´ Cup. However, that will be a difficult task for them as they are still searching for the right lineup combinations. Magnolia are definitely not one of the best teams and don´t belong among the title favourites, but on paper, they possess more quality compared to the Bossing. They should rebound with a victory, but it will not be easy against the offensive potential of Kentrell Barkley and Sed Barefield, who should make the match interesting.
