    Brescia vs Virtus Preview

Brescia are in excellent form and high spirits as they prepare to host the round’s derby. Brescia’s players currently sit at the top of the standings, a position they secured thanks to a road win over Milano in the previous round (90–81), as well as Virtus’ home slip-up against Trento. Brescia are on a four-game winning streak, having also beaten Tortona (92–86), Cantu (81–76) and Udine (83–80) in recent weeks. Their current record stands at 15–2.

It cannot be said that Brescia are truly dominant, but through experience and sheer quality they have managed to string together wins and remain at the top of the table. It helps significantly that they are competing in only one competition, which allows them to have enough freshness and focus every weekend to play 40 minutes of high-level basketball. This is especially evident in overtimes and, at times, in clutch situations, such as against Udine, when they erased a double-digit deficit in the final quarter and secured the win with a three-pointer by Amedeo Della Valle. The same player was also the hero in the win over Milano the following weekend, recording 31 points, five rebounds and seven assists. He also drew eight fouls, and all of that earned him MVP honors for the previous Serie A round. An efficiency rating of 38 marked the best performance of his career, and it was the sixth time he scored 30 or more points in domestic competition. On top of that, he improved his season scoring average to 18.3 points per game, moving up to third place among Serie A scorers. Alongside him, Croatian center Miro Bilan also shined with 17 points and 14 rebounds, while Demetre Rivers and Jason Burnell also finished in double figures. Brescia do not have a particularly deep rotation, so any injury represents a major issue for the team. At the moment, they are monitoring the condition of Nikola Ivanovic, who was injured against Udine and missed the clash with Milano. However, the Montenegrin point guard’s injury is not serious, and he is expected to return to the court soon. Brescia boast the best offense in Serie A, along with the fifth-best defense. They do not play at a particularly fast pace, so their games generally do not feature a very high number of points.

Virtus find themselves in a rather delicate moment, having lost their last three games. Two of those three defeats could be described as quite unexpected, and both came on home court. Last weekend, just a few days after a big road win over Monaco in EuroLeague play, Virtus were beaten at home by Trento, 87–85. After that, they delivered a disastrous performance, again at home, against EuroLeague bottom side Asvel, losing 80–70. They wrapped up the EuroLeague double round with a humiliating road loss to Olympiacos, who handled the Bologna team with ease and conviction, 109–77.

Head coach Dusko Ivanovic was extremely angry with his players after the game against Trento last weekend. At certain moments in the fourth quarter, Virtus held a double-digit lead, as well as a six-point advantage with just over two minutes remaining, but failed to secure the win that would have kept them tied for first place. After that, Virtus collapsed in the EuroLeague double round, and the absence of Alessandro Pajola is being felt more and more. Alessandro Pajola recently underwent surgery on his left knee and is expected to be sidelined for about six weeks. Matt Morgan was also injured in the game against Trento and therefore missed the EuroLeague double round, but he is expected to be ready for the matchup with league-leading Brescia. From the Asvel game onward, the Montenegrin coach has also been able to count on Alen Smailagic, although he will need more time to find his rhythm, just like Luca Vildoza, who hit the game-winning three against Monaco but then followed it up with three disastrous performances. On the positive side for Virtus, Carsen Edwards remains available and continues to pour in points against every opponent he faces, while Derrick Alston Jr. has recently emerged as the team’s most consistent player. Virtus’ chances of reaching the EuroLeague play-in are slowly slipping away, so it should be expected that the team will increasingly turn its focus toward domestic competition, where they currently rank as the fourth-most efficient offense and the best defense in the league. They also lead Serie A in average assists and two-point shooting percentage, while ranking third in three-point shooting accuracy.

    Brescia vs Virtus H2H

In the first part of the season, Virtus defeated Brescia at home, 86–76. Last season, Virtus had little trouble with Brescia in the playoffs, sweeping them 3–0 in the Serie A Finals, while the two teams split their regular-season meetings 1–1.

    Injuries and Suspensions

For Brescia, Nikola Ivanovic is listed as questionable, while Virtus will be without Alessandro Pajola, with the availability of Matt Morgan and Mouhamet Diouf also uncertain.

Where to Watch Brescia vs Virtus?

Brescia vs Virtus Best Betting Tip and Prediction

With a win in this game, Virtus could move into first place and also secure a significant 2–0 head-to-head advantage over Brescia. Virtus’ chances of finishing among the EuroLeague’s top ten are gradually slipping away, so it would not be surprising to see Dusko Ivanovic’s team increasingly shift its focus toward domestic competition, where the primary objective will be to secure first place in the regular season and home-court advantage in the playoffs. Virtus certainly have the quality to match up properly with their opponent on the road, and a response should be expected from Ivanović’s players after two genuinely poor EuroLeague performances. For all these reasons, we believe Virtus will record a big win.
