Cameron Johnson, this season’s addition to the Denver Nuggets, spoke about Nikola Jokic and the team’s current campaign.
Last summer, Cameron Johnson joined the Denver Nuggets, arriving in a trade that sent Michael Porter Jr. the other way. The sharpshooting forward had a slightly slower start to the season with his new team, but it seems he is gradually finding his rhythm ahead of the most important challenges awaiting the Nuggets.
In an interview with Mozzart Sport, Johnson was asked about his early adjustment period and several other topics.
“It’s great to be part of a team that has true championship ambitions and competes for something every single day. When you look at this group, you see a lot of confidence, but also a strong belief in one another. I’m very grateful to be a part of all this.”
The conversation quickly shifted to Nikola Jokic:
“He’s one of the most unique players in NBA history,” the Nuggets shooter said without hesitation, adding:
“No one has ever done what he does. There have been players who were somewhat similar, but no one has done everything you see, in that way and at that level. He’s raised the bar for himself, for Denver, and for everyone else. We’re witnessing his greatness — when you have Nikola Jokic on your team, you always have a chance to do something special.”
Given how important Jokic is to the Nuggets on the floor, Johnson was also asked what it was like playing without him during the month he missed due to a knee injury:
“That period was important for all of us, to understand certain things and what each of us can actually do better. You saw how Peyton Watson stepped up, Jamal (Murray) carried the team on his back, Christian Braun and Aaron Gordon came back, Jalen Pickett gained valuable experience… Everyone made an extra effort and did a lot of good things, which I believe will mean a lot for us going forward.”
NBA trade deadline 2026: The five moves that will shape the rest of the season

These are the five most important deals.
Basketball Sphere explained WHY:
🔄 James Harden to the Cavaliers, Darius Garland to the Clippers
🔄 Jaren…
On the narrative that Jokic doesn’t really care about basketball, or that it’s just a side thing for him:
“I’d say he genuinely doesn’t care about statistics — they just come naturally. You watch him on the court and, for example, against the Bulls he had taken only three shots by the end of the second quarter. He was 3-for-3, but he didn’t care that he had only taken three shots. Since we became teammates, there have been games where he took just seven shots the entire night.
All he cares about is winning. In a way, people are right — at least when it comes to stats. He’s a huge competitor, and on top of that, his numbers are incredible, night after night.
“Look at it: 22 points, 17 assists, and only 12 shots taken (from match against Chicago Bulls… That tells you everything about his unselfishness. His understanding of basketball is on a level above everyone else. It’s impressive, which is why Denver is such a tough team to beat.”
Finally, on Denver’s championship ambitions and whether he believes they can go all the way:
“Absolutely. The confidence in the locker room is huge. But there’s a long road ahead of us — a lot of basketball still to be played before we even get into a position to fight for the title. We’re taking it day by day, learning at every step. The game against the Bulls was one of those from which you can learn a lot. Those lessons need to be carried onto the court, because when you do that, you become a completely different beast. We do have championship ambitions, but we’re focused on what’s happening right now,” Johnson concluded in his conversation with Mozzart Sport.
"It’s true that there are many changes, many coaches get fired, but everyone plays with very good teams, with many millions, and everyone wants to win – and only one can. It’s normal that owners sometimes want to change coaches.” 🗣️
