Crvena Zvezda forward Chima Moneke was extremely satisfied after his team’s overtime victory over Monaco in Round 23 of the EuroLeague.
After a dramatic comeback late in the game, Crvena Zvezda managed to defeat “the Princes” in France after a rigorous overtime period, and Chima Moneke was euphoric following their big win in the EuroLeague.
“We can beat anyone in the EuroLeague. I say that all the time, and the win over Monaco was proof of it. We were good in the first 15 minutes and led by 18 points, but they are a good team as well, so they managed to come back. However, we kept believing even when we were in a double-digit deficit, and a strong reaction on defense helped us a lot,” the Nigerian told Arena Sport.
Defense is the key to everything and something that has characterized the team from Mali Kalemegdan during their winning streak.
“Defense has to be the reason why we win games. They scored 93 points after overtime — I wish it had been an easier win, but we’ll take this one. Beating a team like that is a big thing,” Moneke continued.
The EuroLeague is very competitive and every win means a lot, Moneke emphasized:
“In this situation, it doesn’t matter who we beat, as long as we keep stacking wins, because everyone is close to each other. Two or three wins don’t mean anything special considering how tight the standings are. We’ll play against many teams with a similar record, so we have to stay close. But still, this is a huge win for our confidence — huge.”
There is no time to relax for the red-and-whites, as their odyssey in the EuroLeague continues for them on Friday. At 8:30 PM, they will visit Virtus.
