China vs Saudi Arabia Preview
We watched China play at this tournament a couple of times, especially their last match against the Philippines and we must admit that we just don´t see who could take away the gold medal from them. Against a solid Filipino side, the Chinese team ran riot and completely dismantled the Philippines 105:61. China possess incredible size, skill, shooting and versatility and looked like men against boys in all of their matches so far. They opened the tournament with a 99:61 drubbing of Kazakhstan and then followed up with another massive victory as they obliterated Bahrain 105:59. We already spoke about their massive win over Gilas Pilipinas, which is a clear sign that China are by far the best team in the Asian Games as only maybe South Korea can stand up to them, but we doubt the Koreans can actually win over the course of 40 minutes. The Chinese team is playing without their NBA star Yang Hansen, but that is not a problem for them as they have three to four massive centers with incredible size and versatility led by the veteran Hu Jinqiu. The rest of their squad is a well-drilled and well-oiled machine led by head coach Guo Shiqiang, who has transformed this Chinese team into one of the main Asian juggernauts.
China are much taller and stronger compared to almost every team in the Asian Games. Saudi Arabia are a class below and they simply don´t possess the frontcourt size to compete with the mighty roster of China. This quarterfinal matchup is probably the biggest mismatch as China should break away early and ice this game in the first half.
In Asian terms, Saudi Arabia are a solid and average team, but they don´t have the quality to handle the main tournament favourites. They can be more than content that they even progressed from the group as one of the two best third-ranked teams. Their team was actually not expected to make the knockouts, but they did it on point-differential after the Philippines got absolutely embarrassed by China and lost by an incredible margin of 44 points. During the group stage, the Saudis expectedly lost the opener easily to South Korea (82:66) but then fought valiantly against the hosts and the superior squad of Japan as they only lost by six points. They achieved the crucial victory in the final round by beating the main tournament outsiders Indonesia 100:89 after struggling in the first half. Overall, we think that Saudi Arabia are the weakest team in the knockout stage – they have a very good core with plenty of experience led by center Mohammed Alsuwailem and scorer Muhammad Abdur-Rahkman, but they are still inferior compared to everyone else in the quarterfinals.
Saudi Arabia have some individual quality, but not enough to compete at the highest level in Asia. Last year in the Asia Cup, the Saudis were the hosts and lost narrowly to China by five points, but today, the background is completely different along with China being vastly superior, so we should witness an easy blowout victory for the Chinese squad.
China vs Saudi Arabia H2H
These two teams only met once in their history – it was a meeting last year at the Asia Cup, when China managed to win routinely (93:88).
Injuries and Suspensions
China are playing with essentially their A squad at the Asian Games with a couple of exceptions. Their most notable absentee is their NBA star Yang Hansen. Saudi Arabia are fielding their strongest roster available.
Where to Watch China vs Saudi Arabia?
China vs Saudi Arabia Best Betting Tip and Prediction
In our opinion, the Saudis have wandered into this stage after they barely beat Indonesia and the Philippines got knocked out following a massive loss to China. Saudi Arabia is inferior in every single facet compared to China, whose sheer size and skill should overwhelm the average Saudi team. That is why we opted for China to win and cover the spread.
