Chris Paul has blasted the Los Angeles Clippers over the way they handled his final season with the franchise, describing his exit as “one of the most disrespectful things” he has endured during his NBA career.
Chris Paul returned to Los Angeles in the summer of 2025 for what was expected to be the final chapter of his career with the Clippers. Instead, the reunion ended abruptly during the season, with the veteran guard sent home from a road trip in December before the organization ultimately parted ways with him.
Months after the situation unfolded, Paul has now explained why the experience was so difficult for him and his family.

Chris Paul opens up about Clippers exit
Speaking on the Build or Break podcast, Paul said the circumstances surrounding his departure affected more than just his career.
“What’s interesting about that whole situation is, it’s probably one of the most disrespectful things that I’ve endured,” Paul said.
The 12-time All-Star explained that his wife and older children were closely following what was happening within the organization, making the situation particularly difficult for those closest to him.
“I’ve been through a lot of wild stuff in my career, and having older kids and a wife who’s very tapped in, and they know the daily goings on as far as that team and that organization. Obviously I was upset, but my family, my people, everybody…”
“No matter what you do, nobody cares”
Paul made clear that his frustration was not simply about the Los Angeles Clippers deciding to move on from him late in his career.
Instead, he pointed to the long-term investment he and his family had made in the organization and the way the situation was handled.
“I think just because of the investment we made in the team for as long as we have, and to see the way stuff was handled. What it lets you know is that no matter what you do or what you’ve done, nobody cares,” Paul said.
Chris Paul’s final NBA chapter
Paul officially retired in February 2026 after 21 NBA seasons, closing a career that included stops with the New Orleans Hornets, Clippers, Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder, Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs.
He finished with 12 All-Star selections, 11 All-NBA selections and a place on the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team, while also winning two Olympic gold medals with Team USA.
His final return to the Clippers was therefore a relatively small part of his overall career, but the way it ended clearly left a lasting impression.
