Borac Cacak fought valiantly against the favorites Cluj/Napoca at home, but ended up losing 91-85 to be officially eliminated from ABA League playoff contention.
The Cacak side needed a victory against Cluj/Napoca to keep their hopes to make the ABA League playoffs alive, provided Krka manged to defeat Igokea. However, all of these calculations are irrelevant as the Romanian side pulled off a gutsy win on the road, defeating the Serbian team 93-87 to improve their record to 10-6, while Borac was eliminated with a 7-9 mark.
It was a tightly contested game in the first half with Cluj/Napoca slightly pulling ahead late in the second quarter to take 52-44 lead entering the half-time break. It was impressive they were able to do this considering the war they had with Hapoel Jerusalem in the EuroCup just several days earlier, where they ended up losing on the road in Israel in overtime.
Cluj/Napoca took a 64-51 lead at one point in the third quarter, but Borac fought back with a 20-8 run in the fourth quarter to make 84-83 for Cluj/Napoca as the home crowd kept cheering them on. Ultimately, the tandem of Mitchell Creek and Iverson Molinar decided the game with a pair of three pointers, as they have been doing all season for their team in their victories, putting the game out of reach for Borac Cacak in the end.
Mitchell Creek had 20 points, Dusan Miletic had 13 points and seven rebounds and Nighael Ceaser was the surprising x-factor with a near double-double of 18 points and eight rebounds. Josh Pierre-Louis had 17 points while Pavle Nikolic had his own double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds as six players were in double figures for Borac Cacak, but it ultimately was not enough.
Borac Cacak will now wait for the domestic Radivoj Korac Cup, while Cluj/Napoca will have a do or die game against Aris at home in the EuroCup to determine their own playoff fate in that competition.
