Dusan Alimpijevic does two jobs at once. He coaches Besiktas and he coaches Serbia. He was born in Lazarevac on 9 March 1986. He is 40, and he has been a head coach since 2013.
Serbia gave him the team on 30 September 2025. It came weeks after they lost to Finland in the last sixteen. Svetislav Pesic left after that tournament. Nikola Jokic was named captain under him in June.
Besiktas hired him in 2023 and extended him in July 2026. He took them to the EuroCup final last season. They lost it to Bourg, and then entered the EuroLeague anyway. Monaco left, and the runners-up took the place.
He has been EuroCup Coach of the Year twice, in 2022 and in 2026. The first one came at Bursaspor. He had already coached Crvena Zvezda by then, at 31.
FAQ About Dusan Alimpijevic
Where did he coach before Turkey?
He started as an assistant at Novi Sad in 2008 and took his first head job at Vojvodina in 2013. Spartak Subotica and FMP followed, then Crvena Zvezda for the 2017-18 season. He was 31 there, and he went to Avtodor Saratov in Russia after it.
What did he do at Bursaspor?
Three seasons, from 2020 to 2023, and the first of his two EuroCup Coach of the Year awards, in 2022. It is the job that took him from the Serbian league to becoming a name in Turkey, where he has now stayed for six years.
What has he said about foreign players in the national team?
He ruled them out at his first press conference in Belgrade, in October 2025. His words were that there would be no naturalized player while he is the coach, because the country knows what it is and would not be what it is with one.
