German guard Nick Weiler-Babb was set to become Asvel’s newest addition, but the club’s financial situation drastically altered his plans.
As announced by the Serbian side, Nick Weiler-Babb is officially a new Crvena Zvezda player.
The 30-year-old was one of the major signings completed by Asvel this summer, but their ambitious plans for the 2026/27 season, both in the EuroLeague and LNB Pro A, suffered a massive blow after an investor reportedly failed to secure sufficient funding. Instead of the announced €59 million, the budget for the upcoming season is set to drop to €24 million.
Prior to Nick Weiler-Babb, the club lost Sylvain Francisco, who departed for Panathinaikos, and Armoni Brooks, who went on loan to Valencia. Meanwhile, his national team colleague Daniel Theis ultimately did not sign despite being announced, opting instead to join Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Complete perimeter player
German combo guard is well known in European basketball for his IQ and leadership. He has established himself as one of the most complete perimeter players in the EuroLeague over the past few years.
His ability to handle the ball and defend multiple positions gives Crvena Zvezda a strong two-way presence.
Crvena Zvezda mentioned in the official press release that a lot of EuroLeague teams were interested in his services, but the Serbian powerhouse managed to beat out competition for Nick Weiler-Babb’s signature.
During the 2025/2026 season with Anadolu Efes, he averaged 7.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 1.2 steals across 37 EuroLeague appearances.
Prior to his one-year stint in Turkey, he spent five successful seasons with Bayern, where he won the EuroLeague Best Defender award.
Crvena Zvezda offseason rebuild
Crvena Zvezda has made several moves in the transfer market this summer. Prior to Nick Weiler-Babb, the Belgrade side brought in Ibon Navarro as a coach, and Chris Jones, David Kramer, Jonathan Motley, Patrick Baldwin Jr., and Vojin Medarevic.
On the other hand, Codi Miller-McIntyre, Donatas Motiejunas, Jasiel Rivero, Isaiah Canaan, and Uros Plavsic have left the team.
