Daniel Theis has officially parted ways with Monaco, clearing the final obstacle before completing his move to Asvel, with only the club’s official announcement still pending.
After spending two seasons in the Principality, Daniel Theis will remain in France as he prepares to join the Villeurbanne-based club.
The move was effectively confirmed by Tony Parker, who was introduced as Asvel’s new head coach on Saturday.
“I wanted a franchise player, and Sylvain Francisco was at the top of my list. He truly has that French DNA. It’s incredible that we were able to convince him to join us.
Daniel Theis is a huge signing for us. He brings tremendous experience, and when you have a player of his caliber in the locker room, it changes everything. By signing Armoni Brooks, we’ve added one of the best guards in the EuroLeague. We’ve also finalized deals with Nick Weiler-Babb and Both Gach,” Parker said.
The German center averaged 9.9 points and 5.2 rebounds in 34 EuroLeague games last season. While those numbers were down from the previous year, when he posted 13.8 points and 6.0 rebounds, that production came in only eight games after joining Monaco late in the campaign.
Theis began his professional career with Braunschweig before moving on to Ulm and Bamberg, which paved the way for his NBA career. In the NBA, he played for the Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets, Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Clippers, and New Orleans Pelicans before returning to Europe and signing with Monaco.
