Danilo Andjusic recently left Dubai and became the new player for Aris Thessaloniki. He spoke about this move, as well as other topics, in an interview with Meridiansport.
Andjusic spoke about the reasons he left Dubai, why he chose Aris, and also about the relationship between Klemen Prepelic and the owner of Aris:
“I wasn’t particularly informed about what was going on, but I knew a lot through Klemen Prepelic, who is a good friend of Zisis. We discussed it this summer when Bogdan Karaicic signed. It could be a very nice story. Especially because Aris is a club with a long history.”

Danilo Andjusic then spoke about Aris legend and Greek basketball icon Nikos Galis:
“The best scorer, he brought titles, they see him as God! The jersey is there, in the hall. A living legend. I heard about him from my father long before there was even talk of Aris. He often talked about Galis.”
Danilo Andjusic is expected to make his debut in the Greek Basket League against Promitheas.
“I decided to leave because I wasn’t playing. This past summer, I had a conversation with coach Jurica Golemac about my role on the team. The plan was for me to play in the ABA League and step in for EuroLeague games if needed as the season progressed. However, I played only one game in the ABA and realized that it would be difficult to change that. Many times before, I’ve said that at this stage in my career, I want to play and enjoy basketball as much as possible. Especially since I feel I can still compete at a high level. Many people talked, even gave comments, saying I should just use the contract and enjoy life… But that’s not the kind of player I’ve ever been. I couldn’t just sit and watch when I know I can and should be playing,” explained Andjušić.
The 34-year-old from Belgrade also emphasized that he had a friendly conversation with the club’s management to see what could be done.
“They were completely fair, I have no complaints. Very few clubs would agree to a deal like the one we made. That shows what kind of club they are. I wanted to play, and we sorted everything out quickly. But in the meantime, there was a bit of ’chaos’ because other teams found out I wanted to leave. There were some very interesting options, but none as concrete as Aris, who really showed real interest. Their season started a bit slower than expected because they want something new, to raise themselves to the highest level. In negotiations with me, they were very concrete and assertive… I watched some of their games, saw the ways I could contribute, and I believe this will be a collaboration that benefits both sides.”
