Dimitris Itoudis, head coach of Hapoel Tel Aviv, spoke to the media after the game against Zalgiris in Round 28 of the EuroLeague.
“I think that except for a bad start, during three quarters – practically 30 minutes – we managed to control the game. We were in it, even took the lead, had control, and tried to attack their weaknesses in defensive rotations, which were mostly focused on our playmakers.
In the second half, we moved the ball better, but the fourth quarter brought us catastrophic defense – we allowed 30 points.” – said Dimitris Itoudis.
“Overall, nearly 70% of their two-point shots came from one-on-one play, drives to the basket, offensive rebounds, and fast break points, which were mostly easy finishes after our 16 turnovers – not all, but a large portion.
When you add those 30 points allowed in the final quarter, it’s clear why we couldn’t maintain the lead and keep the game at the level we wanted. The same pattern repeats – three quarters we’re there, leading or where we want to be, and then a short period, one run. Basketball is a game of runs – and that cost us dearly this time.” – concluded Dimitris Itoudis.
