Dubai are set to continue building a major EuroLeague-level roster after a disappointing debut season, according to BasketNews reports.
The club from the United Arab Emirates did not manage to reach the playoffs in their first EuroLeague campaign, but they are now planning an aggressive roster overhaul to avoid a repeat of that scenario.
As reported, Dubai are prepared to pay Monaco Basket $750,000 as a buyout fee in order to sign reigning EuroLeague Defensive Player of the Year Alpha Diallo. Although Diallo is under a long-term contract with Monaco, the French club is going through internal financial pressure, which opened the door for negotiations.
The $750,000 buyout represents a significant financial boost for Monaco, even as they risk losing one of their most important defensive players.
Diallo averaged 11.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game in the EuroLeague this season. He was also one of the most reliable players in the roster, appearing in all 38 regular-season games.
Alongside Diallo, Dubai have also been linked with other Monaco players such as Elie Okobo and Jaron Blossomgame, and there is growing speculation that a high-profile coach could also join the project next season.
