Dusan Alimpijevic, head coach of the Serbian national team, is set to lead Besiktas in the EuroLeague next season and has already begun thinking about reinforcements.
Dusan Alimpijevic and his team are expected to replace Monaco, which is facing a major financial crisis, in Europe’s elite competition, and roster changes are expected.
In addition to wanting to keep the Serbian coach at the helm of the project, which he largely helped elevate to this level, Besiktas does not want to be just a temporary participant in the EuroLeague.
The first major signing they are being linked with is American guard with Turkish citizenship Scottie Wilbekin, according to Yagiz Sabuncuoglu.
Scottie Wilbekin played for Fenerbahce from 2022 to 2026, but that partnership ended in late March. The 33-year-old was long considered one of the best guards playing in Europe, but injuries have taken a toll in recent seasons.
During the 2024-25 season, he appeared in only one EuroLeague game, while in the recently completed season he played in six games. He averaged 7.7 points and 1.3 assists, well below his usual standards.
It is no secret that there is still a very serious player hidden behind those numbers, but everything depends on his health and injury history. If he can stay healthy, Dusan Alimpijevic could receive a valuable addition to the backcourt.
That becomes even more important considering that in the Turkish Super League Finals, where Besiktas lost to Fenerbahce, the team was without several guards due to injuries. Having another experienced player capable of stepping up during periods of major absences is certainly not a bad option, especially with the increasing number of games being played.
For Scottie Wilbekin, this would be the third Istanbul club of his career. In addition to Fenerbahce and a potential move to Besiktas, he also enjoyed great success with Darussafaka, winning the EuroCup and earning MVP honors in the competition.
