Veteran French guard Edwin Jackson will continue his career with Asvel, as he revealed that he has signed a new two-year contract with the French club.
Edwin Jackson, who is in his third stint with Asvel, stated on the “First Team” podcast that the agreement aligns with his plans for the final years of his playing career. At the same time, he made it clear that he will remain active in the basketball world even after he retires from playing.
His relationship with Asvel spans nearly two decades, as he first wore their jersey in 2007. In his first tenure, he played from 2007 to 2014, his second was spent during the 2019/20 season, while his third has been ongoing since 2023. He has made 91 EuroLeague appearances for the club.
In the meantime, he played for powerhouses like Barcelona and Unicaja, as well as Buducnost, Estudiantes, Nanterre, and the Guangdong Southern Tigers in China.
The 36-year-old will offer experience to Asvel’s roster in the new season, with the team also retaining players like Mbaye Ndiaye and Bodian Massa.
Asvel had ambitious plans for this summer, which at one point looked very serious when they signed players like Sylvain Francisco, Armoni Brooks, and Nick Weiler-Babb, while the arrival of Daniel Theis was also rumored.
However, instead of the initially announced 59 million euro budget – with over 20 million euros intended for player salaries alone – an investor’s failure to deliver the financial backing caused the total budget to be slashed to just 24 million euros.
This led to Francisco and Brooks leaving the club, Theis signing with Maccabi Tel Aviv before a deal could be finalized, while Weiler-Babb’s status remains uncertain.
