Ettore Messina, the legendary Italian coach, was a guest at the “Dusan Ivkovic” coaching clinic in Belgrade.
In addition to delivering a lecture, Ettore Messina also agreed to answer questions from journalists and, as expected, spoke about Zeljko Obradovic’s return to Panathinaikos.
One of the greatest figures in the game – not only as a coach but also as a EuroLeague winner – sent a subtle, somewhat diplomatic warning to everyone about what lies ahead in the coming period.
“I think it was an extremely smart move by the owner of Panathinaikos. Zeljko will help the club enormously. Simply put, at this moment there is no better person and no better coach to lead that team”, the Italian said, as reported by MozzartSport, adding:
“For us, his opponents, this is definitely bad news! But I am happy for him. This is the place where he wants to be.”
He continued in the same tone, explaining that this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to complete one of the greatest stories in basketball history.
“It’s a great story that is ending in a beautiful way. After so many years since leaving Panathinaikos, where he achieved incredible success, to get the chance to return and likely finish his career there… I think it’s a huge thing and a fantastic opportunity,” Ettore Messina concluded.
