Eugene Omoruyi has officially joined Besiktas, with the Turkish club adding the Canadian big man after a solid EuroLeague campaign with Baskonia ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Eugene Omoruyi arrives in Istanbul following a strong season in Vitoria, where he became an important part of Baskonia’s rotation and showcased his energy, physicality and ability to contribute on both ends of the floor.
The Canadian international averaged 10.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per game, providing valuable production in his first major European chapter.
Before making the move to Europe, Omoruyi built experience through several stops in North America. He played in the NBA for the Dallas Mavericks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Washington Wizards and Detroit Pistons, while also spending time in the G League.

Besiktas builds one of the most intriguing rosters of the offseason
Omoruyi becomes the latest addition to an ambitious Besiktas project that has been extremely active during the offseason, with several notable EuroLeague transactions shaping the Turkish club’s roster ahead of the new season.
The Turkish club has already completed several notable signings, bringing in Scottie Wilbekin, Metecan Birsen, Furkan Korkmaz, Mady Sissoko, DaQuan Jeffries and Jaylen Nowell, before adding Omoruyi to the roster.
On paper, Besiktas has created one of the most intriguing squads of the summer. The club has added players with significant individual quality and experience at the highest levels, including an established EuroLeague performer in Scottie Wilbekin, as well as players with NBA backgrounds such as Furkan Korkmaz, DaQuan Jeffries and Jaylen Nowell.
However, the biggest question will be how quickly all these additions can translate their talent into consistent performances in the EuroLeague environment.
Partizan was also interested in Eugene Omoruyi
Before reaching an agreement with Besiktas, Eugene Omoruyi was also on the radar of Partizan.
According to information previously obtained by Basketball Sphere, the Belgrade club showed strong interest in the big man while searching for a player who could potentially fill the role of Isaac Bonga.
Joan Penarroya and the Partizan coaching staff viewed Omoruyi as an attractive option due to his physicality, ability to contribute in multiple areas of the game and experience at the highest levels of basketball.
However, after Baskonia confirmed that Omoruyi would not return to the team for the upcoming season, the Canadian big man ultimately chose Besiktas as his next destination.
