In modern basketball, where head coaches are often replaced after a single disappointing season, long-term stability has become increasingly rare.
However, a few elite coaches have managed to build lasting relationships with their clubs and become true symbols of continuity in the EuroLeague.
Among the current EuroLeague head coaches, three names stand out for their remarkable longevity on the same bench. Their eras have been defined by trophies, deep playoff runs, roster changes, and constant adaptation to the evolving demands of European basketball.
In this article, we take a look at the top three longest-serving EuroLeague coaches at their current clubs and explore how they managed to earn the trust of their organizations while maintaining success over multiple seasons.
1. Georgios Bartzokas – Olympiacos (since 2020)
Georgios Bartzokas has established himself as one of the most successful coaches in modern European basketball, with Olympiacos being the club where he achieved the biggest successes of his career.
The Greek coach returned to Olympiacos in 2020 for his second spell with the club. His first tenure lasted from 2012 to 2014, when he already made history by leading the team to the EuroLeague title in 2013. Since returning to Piraeus, Bartzokas has once again built a dominant era and restored Olympiacos among the elite teams in European basketball.
Under his leadership, Olympiacos won the EuroLeague title twice, in 2013 and most recently in the 2025/26 season. The club also dominated domestically, winning four Greek League championships (2022, 2023, 2025 and 2026), three Greek Cups (2022, 2023 and 2024), as well as four consecutive Greek Super Cups from 2022 to 2025.
At the end of the previous season, Bartzokas extended his contract with Olympiacos for another three years, further confirming the club’s long-term trust in the coach who has become the face of its new successful era.
2. Oded Kattash – Maccabi Tel Aviv (since 2022)
Oded Kattash has brought important stability to the Maccabi Tel Aviv bench since taking over the team in 2022.
During his tenure, Kattash established strong continuity within the club despite facing pressure during the previous season, when reports suggested that his position could be in danger. However, he received strong support from his players and ultimately remained in charge, continuing the project he started in Tel Aviv.
Since arriving at Maccabi, Kattash has enjoyed major domestic success. He won the Israeli Premier League three times (2023, 2024 and 2026), while also lifting the Israeli Cup in back-to-back seasons (2025 and 2026). In addition, he won the Israeli League Cup in 2024.
Maccabi also remained competitive in the EuroLeague under his leadership. The team reached the playoffs in the 2022/23 season, where they were eliminated by Monaco after a 3-2 series defeat. A year later, in the 2023/24 campaign, Maccabi again reached the playoffs but lost another five-game series, this time against Panathinaikos.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future at certain points, Maccabi Tel Aviv showed full confidence in Kattash. In April 2026, the club extended his contract for another three years, keeping him in charge until the end of the 2028/29 season and confirming that he remains a key part of the organization’s long-term plans.
3. Dusan Alimpijevic – Besiktas (since 2023)
Dusan Alimpijevic has quickly become one of the most respected young coaches in European basketball after transforming Besiktas into a serious contender.
Since joining the club in 2023, Alimpijevic has done remarkable work on the Besiktas bench. Although he has not won a trophy so far, he managed to significantly raise the level of the team and help the club return to the EuroLeague for the first time since the 2012/13 season.
During his tenure, Besiktas reached the EuroCup Final, where they were defeated 2-0 by Bourg. The Turkish club also played two consecutive Turkish Super League Finals, losing both times to Fenerbahce — 4-1 in the 2024/25 season and 3-1 in the 2025/26 campaign.
Alimpijevic also guided Besiktas to the Turkish Cup Final in both 2024/25 and 2025/26, with Fenerbahce winning both encounters. In addition, Besiktas reached the 2025 Turkish Super Cup Final but again fell short against their Istanbul rivals.
Following the club’s successful rebuild, Alimpijevic recently signed a contract extension that will keep him at Besiktas until the end of the 2027/28 season, giving him the opportunity to continue building one of the most promising projects in European basketball.
