TOP STORY: Thomas Walkup terminates Olympiacos deal amid contract dispute
Thomas Walkup has unilaterally terminated his contract with Olympiacos, creating a major dispute with the reigning EuroLeague champions over his future.
The 33-year-old notified Olympiacos in writing and requested his immediate release, but the Greek club does not recognize the termination and maintains that he remains under contract through the summer of 2027.
The Greek club expects Walkup to report for preseason medical and fitness examinations on August 20. Olympiacos also made clear that it is prepared to take the matter further, stating: “Otherwise, Olympiacos reserves the right to pursue every legal remedy available to protect its rights.”
Greek media report that the disagreement could ultimately be settled in court.
Walkup signed his current contract extension with Olympiacos in April 2023. August 20 could prove crucial in the dispute, with the club expecting him to report for his preseason medical and fitness examinations.
TRANSFERS & MOVES: Garrison Mathews joins Milano, Asvel and Bayern make changes
Garrison Mathews has officially joined Milano, completing his move to Europe after seven seasons in the NBA. The 29-year-old guard arrives from the Indiana Pacers and gives the Italian club another experienced perimeter option ahead of the upcoming EuroLeague season. He appeared in 329 NBA games, averaging 6.4 points per game, while shooting 38.2% from three-point range throughout his career.
Asvel have also strengthened their backcourt by signing French guard Marc-Owen Fodzo Dada. The 20-year-old developed at Nancy and made his professional debut during the 2025-26 season, averaging 6.2 points and 1.8 assists in 13.8 minutes per game.
Bayern, meanwhile, have made two roster changes by parting ways with David McCormack and Elias Harris. McCormack played 28 EuroLeague games last season, averaging 6.9 points and 3.2 rebounds in just over 15 minutes per game, while Harris missed the entire EuroLeague campaign due to injury.
Harris leaves Munich after four seasons with Bayern, winning the German Cup in 2023, the domestic double in 2024 and the Bundesliga in 2025.

INSIDER DESK: Markus Howard set to remain at Baskonia
Markus Howard has reportedly rejected a lucrative offer from Galatasaray as the Baskonia guard looks set to remain in the EuroLeague for another season.
According to El Correo, Howard prefers to continue with Baskonia despite significant interest from Turkey. Galatasaray were reportedly willing to make a strong financial offer, but the 27-year-old is reluctant to leave the EuroLeague for the FIBA Champions League.
Besiktas also tried to sign Howard earlier this summer, with the Istanbul club reportedly offering more than €1 million in salary. However, the two sides failed to reach an agreement, and Besiktas eventually signed Scottie Wilbekin.
Howard is therefore currently expected to stay in Vitoria-Gasteiz, with his priority reportedly being another EuroLeague season and the opportunity to bounce back from Baskonia’s disappointing 2025-26 campaign.
