Everything you need to know about Panathinaikos ahead of the 2026/27 EuroLeague Fantasy season and which players could provide the most value.
Panathinaikos had a disastrous end to the previous season, losing to Valencia in the EuroLeague quarter-finals after taking a 2-0 lead. They then lost to Olympiacos in the Greek Basket League final. As if that wasn’t enough, their biggest rival went on to win the European title in their own arena.
After all those painful events, club president Dimitris Giannakopoulos decided to make major changes to the roster and part ways with head coach Ergin Ataman. Taking his place is Zeljko Obradovic, the returning coach and the greatest European coach of all time.
During the summer, they assembled the most expensive team in EuroLeague history, and Obradovic will have a difficult task putting all the pieces together. A high number of PIR points is expected across all positions, so it is difficult to say where we can expect the most production. What is certain is that Sylvain Francisco and Kendrick Nunn will be the main offensive leaders in the backcourt and will have the ball in their hands the most.
Panathinaikos will play seven of their first eight games at home, so we recommend their players to start the season, especially Sylvain Francisco and Guerschon Yabusele.
Expected Rotation
| Position | Starter | Main backup | Rotation |
|---|---|---|---|
| PG | Sylvain Francisco | Kostas Sloukas | Jerian Grant |
| SG | Kendrick Nunn | Brancou Badio | Panagiotis Kalaitzakis |
| SF | Nigel Hayes-Davis | Isaac Bonga | Nikos Rogkavopoulos |
| PF | Guerschon Yabusele | Juancho Hernangomez | Dinos Mitoglou |
| C | Mathias Lessort | Moustapha Fall |
During the summer, the Greek club’s sporting department built a superteam that will be extremely difficult for everyone to deal with, especially because it is clear where the biggest threats are coming from.
In the backcourt, Sylvain Francisco and Kendrick Nunn will lead the way. Alongside them are Jerian Grant and Brancou Badio. Perhaps the best indication of the team’s depth is the fact that their third point guard will be Kostas Sloukas, a EuroLeague legend. He will probably have a mentoring role this season, but there will certainly be games in which he shows that he still has plenty left in the tank.
On the wing, the main players will be Nigel Hayes-Davis and Guerschon Yabusele. There is also former Partizan player and one of the best all-around players in the EuroLeague, Isaac Bonga.
The center rotation will be completed by Mathias Lessort and Moustapha Fall. It is worth noting that injuries are causing major problems for Panathinaikos at the start of the season.
Nunn, Hayes-Davis and Fall will be out of the lineup in the opening rounds. Because of that, we definitely recommend Francisco, Yabusele and Lessort for the opening rounds, as they will have significantly more room to produce.
The Fantasy Star
Sylvain Francisco – Guard – 14.8 credits
Sylvain Francisco steps into the new season as the clear engine of Panathinaikos’ offense. Following a breakout EuroLeague campaign with Zalgiris where he averaged 16.7 points and 6.4 assists, his summer transfer trajectory – from signing with Asvel to landing in Athens – puts him in an ideal environment to maximize his fantasy value.
With Kendrick Nunn sidelined, Francisco immediately assumes the role of primary ball-handler and focal point. Head coach Zeljko Obradovic is renowned for leaning heavily on his lead guards, meaning Francisco could easily see up to 30 minutes per game in the opening rounds. Expect a massive usage rate as he dictates tempo, operates in primary pick-and-roll actions, and takes on key clutch possessions.
His fantasy potential rests on a versatile stat sheet. Francisco is not purely a shooter who relies on hot streak night; he generates a high floor through elite playmaking, active perimeter defense, and an exceptional ability to draw fouls. His explosive first step forces defenders into recovery mode, regularly sending him to the free-throw line.
While a cold shooting night provides a safe baseline floor due to his assists and drawn fouls, his ceiling is massive. Capable of exploding for 25+ points and double-digit assists, Francisco has every tool required to consistently hit 20+ PIR and deliver elite, top-tier value as a premier fantasy asset.
Best Value Pick
Guerschon Yabusele – Forward – 14.3 credits
Guerschon Yabusele represents the absolute gold standard for budget-building efficiency entering the EuroLeague Fantasy season. Returning to Europe after two years in the NBA, the powerful forward steps into Zeljko Obradovic’s Panathinaikos rotation in an exceptionally advantageous tactical situation.
At 14.3 credits, Yabusele is arguably underpriced given his immediate role and heavy projected volume. Frontcourt injuries to Nigel Hayes-Davis and Moustapha Fall leave Mathias Lessort as the primary conventional center, forcing Yabusele to absorb key minutes across both power forward and center spots.
His diverse offensive repertoire – combining perimeter threat, post-up game, and physical finishing – makes him an immediate mismatch nightmare. Because EuroLeague Fantasy dynamic pricing rewards players whose output significantly outpaces their starting cost, Yabusele is primed for rapid value appreciation.
His floor is naturally elevated by strong rebounding, giving him a safe baseline. With high usage and expanded minutes, a ceiling of 20+ PIR makes him an essential early-season asset to maximize fantasy budget growth.
The Sleeper
Brancou Badio – Guard – 8.3 credits
Brancou Badio arrives at Panathinaikos following a remarkable campaign with Valencia, where his clutch performances in the EuroLeague quarter-finals directly tormented his new employers. The Greek giants ultimately opted to recruit their former executioner, adding a dynamic multi-positional guard to an already stacked perimeter rotation.
In terms of fantasy strategy, Badio represents a classic differential sleeper. While some Fantasy managers will bypass him in favor of backcourt superstars like Sloukas or Francisco, savvy owners should recognize the immediate void left by Nunn’s injury.
Badio’s defensive versatility and shot-creation allow him to absorb valuable secondary rotation minutes without needing high ball dominance to remain impactful. At a modest price tag of just 8.3 credits, the barrier to entry is extremely low.
Badio offers a high-upside profile that can quietly outperform his baseline value. While he will not serve as a primary scoring option, his athletic profile enables him to contribute across multiple statistical categories – collecting rebounds, generating steals, and hitting timely perimeter shots. If he secures a stable 15-20 minute role in the opening rounds, he will comfortably outperform his price tag.
The Trap
Kostas Sloukas – Guard – 10.3 credits
Kostas Sloukas is an absolute EuroLeague and Greek basketball legend. However, as the 36-year-old veteran approaches the twilight of his decorated career, the central question shifts from his legacy to his actual fantasy viability. Entering the new campaign, Sloukas is projected to transition primarily into a locker room mentor and late-game stabilizer.
A price tag of 10.3 credits represents a classic trap for players selecting players based on name recognition and past glory. Panathinaikos boasts a stacked backcourt rotation, and with younger ball-handlers commanding high usage, Sloukas will see a significantly reduced role in terms of overall minutes and daily offensive responsibility.
Physical durability is another major concern after an injury-plagued campaign last season. While his elite court vision and basketball IQ guarantee that he will still produce occasional vintage performances to secure victories, his fantasy baseline is far too unreliable. Between age-related minute restrictions, position battles, and lower statistical volume across non-scoring categories, his upside remains severely capped.
Sloukas will surely deliver memorable moments on the floor, but at this valuation, he is a high-risk asset that Fantasy players should strictly avoid in their starting lineups.
