The aftermath of the EuroLeague Final Four has left many things to be resolved, including fines for several of the participants in the final games.
The EuroLeague has imposed new financial sanctions following incidents during the Final Four. The league fined Olympiacos €8,000 for the incident in the final against Real Madrid, holding the club responsible for the use of smoke bombs inside the arena during the decisive match.
The decision comes amidst previous days when competition president Dejan Bodiroga had praised the quality of the tournament’s refereeing while Chus Bueno had emphasized that Olympiacos fans had not entered the T-Center without tickets. EuroLeague has once again imposed a severe sanction on the Greek club, deeming the incident deserving of the strictest disciplinary action.
In addition to the fine imposed on the club, the league also fined Valencia guard Brancou Badio €6,000. The young Senegalese guard had overreacted after fouling out in the semifinal against Real Madrid, a behavior that the EuroLeague deemed contrary to its disciplinary code.
The new fines confirm the EuroLeague’s desire to maintain strict control over the behavior of clubs and players, especially in the final stages of the season, when tensions are highest and any incident risks escalating.
