EuroLeague owners are expected to meet for a potentially critical meeting in early October as European basketball continues to face major questions regarding its future.
Speaking on the Floor Generals podcast, Sotiris Vetakis, Mihalis Stefanou, and Thanos Tsibos revealed that EuroLeague is planning a general meeting of club owners during the first two weeks of October. However, it is not expected to take place in Barcelona, though the exact location details remain unknown.
More importantly, the response from the clubs is reportedly positive, with several high-profile owners and executives planning to attend.

Many high-profile executives will show up
Among them are Panathinaikos owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos, Olympiacos owners Giorgos and Panagiotis Angelopoulos, Barcelona president Joan Laporta, representatives from Anadolu Efes and Fenerbahce, while Real Madrid president Florentino Perez could also make an appearance.
“Everyone is very positive about making this happen”, said Vetakis.
Agenda of the meeting
According to the podcast, the agenda could include decisions regarding EuroLeague’s franchise structure, potential competition expansion in the coming years, and the situation surrounding NBA Europe.
Vetakis also highlighted that a separate NBA meeting is scheduled for September 15, where league stakeholders are set to discuss and potentially approve next steps for the project.
Giannakopoulos and the Angelopoulos brothers at the same table
One of the most intriguing elements of the upcoming meeting is that Giannakopoulos and the Angelopoulos brothers could be sitting at the same table – a rare occurrence for the owners of Panathinaikos and Olympiacos, especially in recent years.
That makes the prospect of another face-to-face encounter especially compelling.
“To see Dimitris Giannakopoulos and the Angelopoulos brothers sitting at the same table because of this EuroLeague meeting would be significant”, Vetakis said.
