EuroLeague trends: Fenerbahce will visit Virtus in Round 23 of the EuroLeague, with the key question being how much they can do in Bologna, which has been an almost impenetrable fortress this season.
In the previous round, Virtus earned a crucial road win against Dubai, a result of major importance in their ongoing fight for a play in or even playoff spot. Fenerbahce owns the best defense in the EuroLeague, allowing just 106 points per 100 possessions to their opponents. Beyond the raw numbers, Virtus has also been playing truly impressive defense at home in Bologna.
At the same time, it is worth noting that Carsen Edwards has been delivering significantly better performances on his home floor compared to his road games.
In the first meeting between these teams this season, Fenerbahce claimed a narrow 66:64 victory after a tense finish, managing to limit Carsen Edwards to just 13 points.
Both teams are dealing with injury issues, and the question is how they will respond this time around, especially since one particular trend against Fenerbahce does not work in favor of Virtus and head coach Dusko Ivanovic.
Fenerbahce dominates against Virtus
Fenerbahce have recently hit very good form and definitely look like one of the strongest teams in the EuroLeague. In this round, they will face a tough challenge as they travel to Virtus, who have been very strong at home this season. However, history is on Fenerbahce’s side. In fact, the Turkish team are on a four-game winning streak in head-to-head matchups against Virtus.
They first won in the second game of the 2023/24 season, convincingly defeating Virtus 88-75 at home. The following season, in the first game, they faced many problems in Bologna but ultimately emerged victorious. In the next matchup, they won comfortably 95-81. The most recent meeting was played this season at the end of November, when Fenerbahce managed a narrow 66-64 win at home.
