EuroLeague has officially notified the NBA that it may initiate legal proceedings against the league over negotiations with clubs.
According to Aris Barkas, EuroLeague has taken issue with the NBA holding talks with clubs that have already signed long-term participation agreements in Europe’s top competition.
EuroLeague is facing serious challenges due to the potential departure of its top clubs to the proposed NBA Europe project.
Clubs that have already committed to new long-term agreements with EuroLeague are considered bound by their existing obligations, and any discussions about joining an alternative league could constitute a breach of contract. As a result, EuroLeague is considering legal action to protect its interests.
It is reportedly claimed that NBA and FIBA representatives have already held talks with, among others, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Fenerbahce, although no final decisions have been made by the clubs so far.
Per Eurohoops sources, the EuroLeague has officially notified the NBA of possible legal action because of talks with clubs which have already committed in writing with the competition for the next decade.
