Fenerbahce vs Valencia Preview
Fenerbahce suffered a loss in the previous round of the EuroLeague, falling to Dubai by 92-81, which ended a strong run of results over the past month. The team coached by Sarunas Jasikevicius had been on a massive surge and currently sits at 13-7. As a reward for outstanding performances, the Lithuanian expert received a new three-year contract, and expectations are that he will remain in Istanbul at least until 2029. In the loss to Dubai, team defense clearly failed, as they allowed a huge number of points. That is uncharacteristic for Fenerbahce, which owns by far the best defensive rating in the EuroLeague, allowing just 110.3 points per 100 possessions. Now they need to find more continuity on the other end of the floor, but things are trending in a better direction there as well.
Wade Baldwin with 21 points and Talen Horton-Tucker with 15 were the most efficient players in the loss to Dubai. In fact, they are the only two players on the Fenerbahce roster who can consistently create something out of 1-on-1 situations, generate advantages, and build open shooting looks for their teammates. Last week, Nando De Colo was also signed, giving coach Jasikevicius another option and another veteran presence in the locker room, so De Colo’s presence can only be beneficial. The arrival of Chris Silva was supposed to upgrade the center position, but he soon suffered an injury and will be out for a couple of months. Fenerbahce has received very little this season from Armando Bacot and Brandon Boston. Bonzie Colson and Tarik Biberovic lack any kind of continuity, while Khem Birch is mostly useful only on the defensive end. And when Nicolo Melli also fails to deliver offensively, as was the case against Dubai, the game ends in a loss for the reigning EuroLeague champion.
Valencia lost to Monaco at home in the previous EuroLeague round by 101-92, marking their first home defeat of the season in front of fans. The only other loss came against Hapoel Tel Aviv, which was played behind closed doors. A few days later, they were also beaten by Unicaja in the Liga Endesa at Roig Arena, which pointed to a dip in form. However, Valencia responded on Monday with a convincing win against Zaragoza and now travels to Istanbul in better spirits to face Fenerbahce. There is not a single team in the EuroLeague that does not experience ups and downs at some point, and the recent run of results by the team coached by Pedro Martinez has been truly impressive. They have won on the road against teams such as Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, and Crvena Zvezda, confirming that they are dangerous on any court. They will try to show that again on Friday.
In the loss to Monaco, defense was the main issue, even though Valencia ranks among the top five teams in that segment by defensive rating. Kameron Taylor was the top scorer with 18 points, and he has developed into one of the most valuable players in the entire competition at his position. Darius Thompson added 17 and once again showed that he is having a phenomenal season, while Jean Montero contributed 15. Expectations for Montero were even higher, but a large number of injuries prevented him from finding rhythm and continuity. Even so, his numbers are excellent, and his ceiling is as high as it gets. Brancou Badio is also capable of knocking down a large number of shots from deep in a short span, while Matt Costello and Nate Reuvers are tasked with spacing the floor and threatening from the pick-and-pop. All things considered, Valencia is currently 14-7, and if the season ended today, they would have home-court advantage in the EuroLeague quarterfinals. If they manage to stay in the top eight and reach the playoffs, that would be an impressive achievement.
Fenerbahce vs Valencia H2H
Valencia defeated Fenerbahce 94-79 in the first part of the season. Over the last ten head-to-head matchups, both teams have recorded five wins each. Interestingly, in each of the previous six meetings, the home team has always come out on top.
Injuries and Suspensions
Bonzie Colson, Chris Silva, Scottie Wibelkin, Jilson Bango, Onuralp Bitim, and Arturs Zagars will not play for Fenerbahce in this game. Nate Reuvers is questionable for Valencia.
Where to Watch Fenerbahce vs Valencia?
Fenerbahce vs Valencia Best Betting Tip and Prediction
The key for Fenerbahce will be to pull the opponent into as much 5-on-5 basketball as possible and look for their chance there. Still, based on what both teams have shown so far, this looks like a true 50-50 game where small details will decide the outcome. Valencia has already proven capable of beating even stronger rosters than the one the reigning EuroLeague champion currently has, while Fenerbahce has shown that it does not possess significant offensive firepower, and when the defense collapses, problems arise. All in all, we expect Valencia not to lose by a large margin here.
