When and Where Is the FIBA World Cup 2027?

The FIBA World Cup 2027 is held in Doha, Qatar, from 27 August to 12 September 2027. It is the 20th edition of the men’s World Cup and the first hosted by Qatar, which qualifies automatically as host. Venues and the match calendar will be confirmed closer to the event, and we will update this section as they are confirmed.

    How the Tournament Works

Thirty-two national teams reach the World Cup: host Qatar plus 31 from the regional qualifiers. The finals follow the established World Cup format of group stage into knockout rounds. The competition also doubles as a direct qualifying route to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, with seven Olympic berths decided in Qatar, which raises the stakes on every game in the finals.

How Teams Qualify for the FIBA World Cup 2027

Qualification runs across six windows from November 2025 to March 2027, with 80 national teams competing across four regions. The places are allocated by region:

    RegionPlaces
    Europe12
    Americas7
    Asia and Oceania7
    Africa5
    Host Qatar1
    Total32

That is 31 qualifiers plus the host, for 32 in total. We follow the process in full on our FIBA World Cup 2027 qualifiers hub, and we keep a running list of every nation that has booked its place on our qualified teams tracker.

    The Road So Far

Window by window results and call-ups are filed on our FIBA World Cup news page.

The qualifiers are live now, and each window changes who controls a spot. The tracker below shows every place that is already filled, region by region. We update it after each qualifying window.

Who has qualified for the FIBA World Cup 2027?

Updated 11 September 2026, after the August 2026 window

Two of the 32 places are filled and 30 are still open. Türkiye was the first team to win its place, clinching it on 31 August 2026. Canada is one win away from joining them.

    Europe’s Race, and Serbia’s Road

Europe sends the largest contingent, 12 teams, and the competition for those places is the fiercest of any region. Serbia is among the nations chasing one, and for our readers that is the story worth following closely. We cover it on its own page: Serbia’s road to Qatar, alongside the full European qualifiers.

What Qatar 2027 Decides for Los Angeles

Twelve teams play the Olympic tournament in Los Angeles. Seven of them are decided in Doha, which is why the finals carry more than a trophy.

RegionOlympic places from the World Cup
    Europe2
    Americas2
    Africa1
    Asia1
    Oceania1
    Total7

The United States is already in as Olympic host. The last four places come from four qualifying tournaments in 2028, twenty-four teams in all, one winner from each.

This changes how the bracket reads. A European team does not have to win the World Cup to reach Los Angeles. It has to finish as one of the two best European teams in Doha.

That is a second race inside the same tournament. Europe will have twelve teams in Doha and only two of them leave with an Olympic place.

    The Favorites

The contenders will sharpen as rosters firm up toward 2027, but the shape of the race is already visible. We break down the leading nations and how the odds move as the qualifiers unfold in our FIBA World Cup 2027 favorites analysis.

When the outright markets open in earnest closer to the tournament, we cover where they are priced best in our guide to the best FIBA World Cup betting sites.
