Gran Canaria will play in the FIBA Champions League starting next season, reports La Provincia.
Starting from the 2025/2026 season, the Spanish teams expected to compete in the FIBA Champions League are: Unicaja, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Joventut, and Murcia, while Bilbao, as the FIBA Europe Cup champion, would play in the qualifiers during the summer.
Gran Canaria’s decision will reportedly be made official on June 13, the deadline for clubs to register for European competitions.
The club believes that the ECA is not showing enough interest in the EuroCup, and the only proposal they received was an increase in the prize pool by competition phases — something the club deemed insufficient.
Gran Canaria won the EuroCup two years ago but ultimately decided not to participate in the EuroLeague. Before that, they played in finals against Khimki and this year against Hapoel Tel Aviv, but lost in both series.
