The chaos in Israel caused by missiles launched by Iran toward the country brought the domestic league semifinal between Hapoel Tel Aviv and Hapoel Jerusalem to a halt.
The situation in Israel has once again become alarming. On Sunday evening, an air raid warning was activated due to Iranian missiles heading toward the country, which naturally led to the suspension of basketball activities as well.
At the end of the third quarter of the game between Hapoel Tel Aviv and Hapoel Jerusalem (77-67), the referees stopped the game, sent the players to the locker rooms, and instructed the fans to leave the arena. The situation has caused significant concern among foreign players, particularly those on the EuroLeague club’s roster.
According to Sport5, Dan Oturu and Antonio Blakeney are expected to leave Israel by plane today. The team’s assistant coach, Stefanos Dedas, also reportedly attempted to leave the country but remained in Israel after being persuaded by the club to stay.
Meanwhile, several other Hapoel Tel Aviv players have expressed concern, with Chris Jones and Tai Odiase among the most vocal.
It is undoubtedly a very unpleasant situation, and it remains unclear whether the championship can continue under such circumstances. If it does, an even bigger question is what kind of rosters the teams will be able to field.
