Hapoel Tel Aviv have officially completed their first signing of the 2026 offseason, announcing the arrival of former NBA swingman Amir Coffey on a one-year contract.
The 29-year-old becomes the Israeli club’s first addition of the summer as Hapoel continues building its roster ahead of its second consecutive EuroLeague season.
Amir Coffey begins a new chapter in Europe
The move represents a new chapter in Coffey’s career, as the American wing will play outside the NBA for the first time. Capable of playing both the shooting guard and small forward positions, Coffey brings valuable experience from the highest level of basketball.
The 29-year-old spent the 2025/26 season between the Phoenix Suns and Milwaukee Bucks, appearing in 46 games and averaging 3.2 points, 1.2 rebounds and 0.6 assists per contest. Despite a challenging season statistically, Coffey recorded a career-best 42% shooting from three-point range, showing the shooting ability that has been one of the strengths of his game throughout his career.
Before joining Phoenix and Milwaukee, Coffey spent the majority of his NBA career with the Los Angeles Clippers, where he became a reliable rotation player. In total, he played 369 NBA games, averaging 6.2 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists.

From Minnesota to the NBA: Coffey’s basketball journey
Coffey played college basketball at the University of Minnesota from 2016 to 2019 before declaring for the NBA Draft. However, he went undrafted in 2019 and had to earn his opportunity through hard work and consistency.
After making his NBA debut, Coffey gradually established himself as a valuable role player, known for his defensive versatility, ability to guard multiple positions and improving perimeter shooting.
Now, after seven seasons in the NBA, he will make his first appearance in European basketball with Hapoel Tel Aviv.
Hapoel Tel Aviv make first move of the summer
After a relatively quiet start to the offseason, Hapoel Tel Aviv have finally made their first official move in preparation for another EuroLeague campaign.
The club has already seen several departures, with Chris Jones joining Crvena Zvezda, while Levi Randolph, Kessler Edwards and Yam Madar have also left the team.
At the same time, Hapoel managed to retain two important pieces of the roster by extending the contracts of Ish Wainright and Tai Odiase.
More reinforcements expected in Tel Aviv
The arrival of Coffey is expected to be only the beginning of Hapoel Tel Aviv’s offseason activity.
The club continues working on additional reinforcements, with Zach LeDay and Tamir Blatt among the players heavily linked with a move to Tel Aviv.
After making its EuroLeague debut last season, Hapoel Tel Aviv is now focused on building a stronger roster and establishing itself among Europe’s elite clubs. The signing of Coffey adds another experienced player with NBA pedigree as the Israeli side prepares for another demanding season on the continental stage.
