Hapoel Tel Aviv was defeated on the road by Hapoel Jerusalem in Israeli Basketball Super League Round 16, even though Elijah Bryant returned to the court.
Hapoel Tel Aviv is in serious trouble after a strong start to the season, largely due to the injury of the team’s best player, Bryant.
Even though the talented American guard returned for this game against the Jerusalem team and scored 21 points with 5 rebounds, shooting 6 of 10 from the field, it wasn’t enough to pull Hapoel Tel Aviv out of their slump.
The game started well for Dimitris Itoudis’ team, taking a +4 lead after the first quarter, but then Hapoel Jerusalem took over, winning the second and third quarters 56-38, building a +14 advantage.
In the final quarter, Hapoel Tel Aviv played well offensively, but couldn’t hold up defensively, as the quarter ended 29-29, with the final score 105-91 in favor of the hosts.
Jared Harper led Hapoel Jerusalem with 23 points and 7 assists without a turnover, while Casius Winston added 18 points. On the other side, besides Bryant, Antonio Blakney scored 20 points.
This marks Hapoel Tel Aviv’s fifth consecutive loss in all competitions. Next week, in EuroLeague Round 28, they will visit Zalgiris. The Lithuanian team defeated Hapoel earlier in the season in Sofia, and everyone knows how tough Zalgiris is in front of their home crowd.
