Hapoel Tel Aviv won the EuroCup after defeating Gran Canaria 2-0 in the final series, securing a 103:94 victory in the second game on the road.
Despite the known difficulty of playing away against the Spanish team, Hapoel Tel Aviv played their game and demonstrated their offensive power. The guests scored 29 points in the first 10 minutes, taking an 8-point lead (29:21) after the first quarter.
The points were evenly distributed among the Israeli team, with former Partizan point guard Yam Madar standing out, coming close to a double-digit score early in the second quarter. He quickly reached 12 points, contributing to Hapoel Tel Aviv’s 9-point lead at halftime, after the home team had managed to reduce the deficit from 14 to just half a point before a new surge from Dimitris Itoudis’ team.
Gran Canaria occasionally threatened, but Johnathan Motley and Madar managed to fend off their advances. However, it was clear that more players needed to step up. Antonio Blakeney emerged and, with the help of the aforementioned duo, kept the home team at a safe distance.
Blakeney would go on to play a brilliant game, completely dismantling Gran Canaria and securing the prestigious trophy for Hapoel Tel Aviv.
The key contributors to the victory were Blakeney with 27 points and Motley with 26, while Madar finished the game with 16 points. For the opponents, George Conditt led the way with 18 points.
According to the rules, Hapoel Tel Aviv will be eligible to participate in the EuroLeague next season.
