Panathinaikos defeated Olympiacos 68-58 (9-15, 20-15, 19-8, 20-20) at OAKA Arena in Game 2 of the Greek Basket League Finals.
With the victory, Panathinaikos leveled the series at 1-1 in the best-of-five championship matchup.
The Greens, led by head coach Ergin Ataman, finally delivered a strong performance, managing to slow down the reigning Greek and European champions with aggressive defense. They were led by a dominant offensive display from Nigel Hayes-Davis, who scored 23 points to power his team to victory.
The key difference was made in the third quarter, when Panathinaikos broke the resistance of Olympiacos, largely thanks to Nigel Hayes-Davis, who scored 12 points in that period alone.
From that point on, Olympiacos was unable to recover. It should also be noted that the Panathinaikos players completely neutralized the impact of Sasha Vezenkov, who was largely ineffective throughout the game.
However, the win was somewhat overshadowed by an injury suffered by French center Mathias Lessort, who hurt his calf in the final quarter of the game. His availability for the remainder of the finals is now in serious doubt.
For Olympiacos, Evan Fournier was the standout performer with 15 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists. Serbian center Nikola Milutinov finished the game with five points and three rebounds.
