Ioannis Sfairopoulos shared his first impressions after Crvena Zvezda defeated Olympiacos in Round 15 of the EuroLeague.
Ioannis Sfairopoulos was pleased with his team’s win.
“I want to congratulate my players on the win. This was a game we controlled from start to finish, especially in the second half where we were even better. After the first half, we had a dip, but after the third quarter, we gained a double-digit lead. The same happened in the final quarter. We managed to prevent many Olympiacos players from scoring with great defense.
They only scored 35 points in the second half, so it’s clear how complete this game was, both offensively and defensively, and that’s why we came to the win. I also want to congratulate our fans for their support, and I wish Olympiacos the best of luck in the rest of the competition. It’s important to stay humble and take it one game at a time. I hope the injured players return, Petrusev will play the next game, so we can be even better.
We want to fight every time, regardless of the opponent’s name, whether they are at the top of the standings or at the bottom. You can always win or lose against anyone. What’s important is to fight, and what I liked today was the displayed fight, we gave our hearts on the court while staying concentrated and focused. We had 25 assists and a low number of turnovers. We controlled the game, and the result is as it is.”
Dejan Davidovac – 12 points in the fourth quarter
“Deki is a joker, I can use him in any position. He has the quality, as I said, he’s the joker!”
Great game preparation
“You know, when my colleagues and I work professionally, every game is the same. We don’t change our approach from the beginning, and we prepare every match the same way. Sometimes it’s obvious on the court like today, but sometimes things we planned don’t work out on the court, which is why we’ve lost games.
I believe we have great players and a team, and when everyone plays and helps the team—not just by scoring, but also with defense, rebounds, and things that can’t be seen in the statistics—it’s important that everyone gives their best, and that’s how we win. And that’s what happened today, that’s the key. Today, some players didn’t score, but they looked great on the court and contributed.”
Return of injured players and John Brown
“When you have dangerous players, like Bolomboy who hasn’t played for two months, getting him back into rhythm will cost us. It will take him some time to get back to his best, he won’t look perfect from the start. The same goes for John Brown, he hasn’t played for a while, he’s another player in the rotation, and he will also need time.
Filip Petrusev is already adapted and ready to play, he’s part of the team, and my job is to give each player the right role and make them function for the team. When everyone is healthy, I’ll have the headache of who will play and who won’t.”
Luka Mitrovic
“This is the Luka we want, the one we know can play like this. I’m very satisfied with how he played today, and I hope he continues in the same rhythm. I didn’t put the small-ball lineup in for offense, but for defense. I didn’t want Mitrović to guard their guards after switches. Offensively, he was great, but defensively I didn’t want to overload him” – Ioannis Sfairopoulos said.
Crvena Zvezda is currently eighth in the standings with an 8–7 record, while Olympiacos is fifth with nine wins and six losses.
In Round 16, Crvena Zvezda will play against Anadolu Efes in Istanbul, while Olympiacos will face Virtus in Piraeus.
