Nikola Jokic delivered a fantastic performance in the Denver Nuggets’ win over the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first game of the playoff series.
The Serbian center finished the game with 42 points and 22 rebounds — a stat line that didn’t go unnoticed by his teammate Jamal Murray.
NBA legend Charles Barkley spoke with Murray after the game and asked him what it feels like to play alongside Jokic.
“When you play with a top-tier player, you can’t take for granted what Jokic does. He had 42 points and 22 rebounds, only five people in history have done that. Do you ever look at the box score after a game and say, ‘Hey, this dude had 40 and 20 – I’m lucky to watch him every night and play with him’?” Barkley asked.
The Canadian guard was ready with a response.
“I know I’m playing with a future Hall of Famer. The man is incredible. He’s damn near unstoppable, so I try to get him the ball almost every time I have the opportunity.”
Russell Westbrook also reacted to Jokic’s brilliant performance.
“He’s the best player in the world. We talk a lot. He’s always communicating. He thinks we can play even better – which is crazy. We’re doing a good job of making basketball look easy,” Westbrook said.
