Former NBA All-Star Jeff Teague didn’t hold back when discussing the 2024-25 Indiana Pacers on the Club 520 Podcast. He called them “one of the worst finals teams in NBA history.”
He went even further, questioning the overall strength of the league: “What does that say about the rest of the league? … One of the worst rosters in NBA history to make the finals.”
Claim Now Despite the criticism, the 2024-25 season was one of the most memorable in franchise history for the Pacers. In their 58th season and second consecutive playoff appearance under coach Rick Carlisle, Indiana finished with 50 wins — their best record since 2013-14 — earning the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference.
The journey wasn’t easy. Key big men Isaiah Jackson and James Wiseman both suffered Achilles injuries, prompting the front office to add depth at center by signing Thomas Bryant, Tony Bradley, and Jahlil Okafor.
Even with these setbacks, the Pacers delivered an impressive postseason performance. They eliminated the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round, then upset the top-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers in five games.
In the Eastern Conference Finals, Indiana defeated the New York Knicks in six games, advancing to only their second NBA Finals in franchise history.
However, the Finals were dominated by the 68-win Oklahoma City Thunder. Indiana fought hard and pushed the series to a decisive Game 7, but their hopes were dashed when star guard Tyrese Haliburton tore Xhis Achilles early in the final game.
