Zaragoza have officially sacked head coach Joan Plaza, marking his second dismissal in Liga Endesa after also being let go by Andorra earlier this season.
The team has lost 14 of its last 17 Liga Endesa games, with the final straw being the Round 32 defeat to Manresa.
Zaragoza were beaten 101–83 by Manresa, which turned out to be Plaza’s last game in charge of the team.
What makes the situation even more striking is that this is not the first coaching change for Joan Plaza in Liga Endesa this season. The experienced coach started the campaign with Andorra, but parted ways after a poor start, before taking over Zaragoza in an attempt to turn their season around — which he ultimately failed to do.
Zaragoza currently sit in 16th place, the last position that avoids relegation, with nine wins, the same number as 17th-placed Andorra. However, Zaragoza have one game in hand, which gives them some hope.
Still, a very difficult schedule awaits them, as they will host Murcia and Valencia, both tied for second place, before closing the season against Breogán.
