Johnathan Motley is nearing a return to Hapoel Tel Aviv, as confirmed by president Ofer Yannay and new head coach Dimitris Itoudis.
Dimitris Itoudis was introduced this morning as the new head coach of Hapoel Tel Aviv, and one of the key topics discussed alongside the club president was the potential return of Johnathan Motley to the team.
Addressing the media, club president Ofer Yannay commented on the matter:
“Motley is an excellent player; his contract remains valid, and we expect his return. A conversation has already taken place with his agent, and I believe this is the first step towards bringing him back to Hapoel Tel Aviv.”
Dimitris Itoudis briefly added to the topic:
“Ofer has already covered everything. I know Motley is a key focus for us. This team is entirely different, both offensively and defensively, when he’s here compared to when he’s not. As a coaching staff, we want clarity on his situation sooner rather than later so we can plan our next steps accordingly.”
Interestingly, Dimitris Itoudis has already worked with Johnathan Motley, having signed him in 2022 from Lokomotiv Kuban. This prior connection could play a pivotal role in facilitating Motley’s potential return to Hapoel Tel Aviv.
In recent days, there have been reports suggesting that Johnathan Motley might move to the NBA G League, with some NBA teams expressing interest in him. However, it seems that such a move is unlikely to materialize.
