Jordan vs Chinese Taipei Preview
Following their stint in the recent William Jones Cup and the FIBA World Cup qualifying window, Jordan are gearing up for the Asian Games with their strongest roster ever. Ahead of the William Jones Cup, they appointed a new head coach in Spanish expert Luis Guil Torres. He had a tough assignment in the recent World Cup qualifying window as he had to face the Philippines and Australia as his team lost both of those games. In those matches, Jordan were led by their star naturalized import Jalen Harris and were close to upsetting Gilas Pilipinas in the Philippines but lost in overtime. A couple of days later against Australia, they didn´t stand a chance and lost by a massive margin. The main difference between their roster from the qualifiers and these Asian Games is that their import Jalen Harris will not be playing. However, the Jordanese federation managed to naturalize Perrin Bufford, who will be spearheading the team in the Asian Games along with Jordan´s longtime naturalized import Dar Tucker, who has announced this will be his last international tournament with Jordan. Besides these two excellent imports, Jordan have more firepower in view of their naturalized player Freddy Ibrahim, who is playing under their flag for a long time, and center with European league experience Ahmad Al Dwairi.
With the roster they have summoned for the Asian Games, Jordan are clearly in it to win it. They are star-studded with Bufford and Tucker and look like a genuine threat for the gold medal. They never had such a strong lineup in their history, so we think they should definitely contend for a medal.
Chinese Taipei have improved massively after Italian tactician Gianluca Tucci took over their national team. Last year in the Asia Cup, they narrowly lost in the quarter-final to a powerhouse Iranian team and in the World Cup qualifiers, they were eliminated in the final round of the opening stage by their biggest rivals China. For the Asian Games, head coach Tucci has a very strong roster to work with, but not all of their best players will be playing as their domestic star Liu Cheng and the naturalized Hinton brothers are missing. However, dominant naturalized center Brandon Gilbeck will be playing along with the main domestic weapons Lin Tingqian and Ray Chen, so Chinese Taipei should definitely make some noise. They have a tough group with Jordan, Iran and Qatar, but we feel they are more than capable of beating Qatar and progressing to the knockout stage from the third place in the group. In today´s clash against a talent-laden Jordan team, they have a small chance, but Jordan are clearly better with two high-level imports and should carve out a routine victory with their superior class.
If Chinese Taipei had all of their main stars available, then they could definitely beat Iran and Jordan, but without Hinton brothers, that will be a very difficult task. However, they still have enough firepower and quality to fight valiantly against the main group heavyweights as Iran and Jordan should have a tough time against their well-organized system imposed by head coach Gianluca Tucci.
Jordan vs Chinese Taipei H2H
In the last five head-to-head clashes, Jordan won three times, while Chinese Taipei won twice.
Injuries and Suspensions
Jordan are missing their naturalized import Jalen Harris but have one of their strongest lineups ever led by two new naturalized import players. Chinese Taipei are boasting a very strong lineup but are without a couple of important domestic players along with the naturalized Hinton brothers.
Where to Watch Jordan vs Chinese Taipei?
Jordan vs Chinese Taipei Best Betting Tip and Prediction
Last year in the Asia Cup, Chinese Taipei beat Jordan easily and routinely by almost 15 points. However, in that game, Jordan were heavily shorthanded and nowhere near the firepower they have for the Asian Games. With Bufford, Tucker, Al Dwairi and Ibrahim, the Jordanese side is clearly better and should win routinely in the tournament opener, so we opted for Jordan to win and to cover the spread.
